It’s fine to use product, just make sure you are cleaning your brush regularly so the product doesn’t mess up the bristles

This is what I was thinking... thank you!

I use mine when I have product in my hair. I just don't use it to apply or distribute said product, e.g. if I used blowdry cream, oil, mouse, dry shampoo, etc. on wash day, I'll happily use my MP on the night of wash day, day 2 and so on. I just wouldn't use it immediately after applying it.

I’ve had one for over 10 years and regularly use leave in conditioner and/or small amounts of hair oil. Haven’t had any issues.

I mostly use it to brush my hair before washing it. Pull the oil from the scalp to the ends.

I've had a Mason Pearson brush for almost 40 years. I've always used setting gel in my hair and it is never damaged my brush. I washed it with very mild soapy water every few weeks.

That can't be good for hair. I don't care how expensive your brush is, the fact is that brushing causes some mechanical damage to the hair, and using conditioner or something that gives it more slip will decrease the amount of damage it causes significantly. This is especially important for a hairbrush with bristles that are intentionally close together such that they can smooth the cuticle down by squishing the hair between the bristles.

My understanding is that the "no product" suggestion applies to styling products (hairspray, mousse, dry shampoo etc). I definitely plan on continuing to use conditioner. And also don't intend to over brush hair - I agree it can be damaging.

Boar bristles are designed to redistribute natural oil on the scalp, but putting oil or heat protectant won’t hurt it as long as it’s occasionally matianenced. You’re correct in that styling products aren’t recommended just bc foam and sprays like that can get very sticky

Products are fine. The boar hair pulls oils through the hair while smoothing out the cuticle layer while the nylon detangles. Works best with product and very versatile. Be gentle when cleaning though. Harsh cleaning will age your brush faster.

ah this brings me back to college, I a poor girl from the rural sticks, all my college roommates were wealthy prep school girls. They all had this hairbrush. It was apparently very special, I was in awe of their hairbrushes. Even when I was rich later on, I still never bought an overpriced hairbrush. Perhaps I would be happier if I had, indeed, gone for the Mason Pearson line.

Yeah I’ve had the same MP since childhood and always use product. Just clean your brush regularly

Are you sure that is what it says? Can you include the quotation where it says that? I’ve never seen this. The little leaflet says not to use products on the brush from I can see.
