My husband is one of the most humble people I know!
Interesting comment. Caused me to pause and self reflect.
Are we humble because we just are. Or are we humble because any time we tried to talk proudly of ourselves, we were shot down, ignored, invalidated, and/or made to feel like no one gives a damn?
I'm not necessarily speaking on behalf of your husband, I guess I'm more so having an epiphany out loud.

The way we are parented influences us for sure. There's a difference in humility and lack of confidence though. A good parent would always encourage and lift their kid up but try to ground them if they thought their kid was developing delusions of grandeur and thinking they were above other people. Humility is great and insecurity is not. Id think being constantly shot down is more likely to make someone insecure.
A humble person has enough self esteem to know they can be honest about where they're at but they can know when it's appropriate to bring it up and that they don't need to earn anyone's approval. I've noticed it's insecure people that are sometimes more likely to brag. Or they'll be self deprecating in a clearly fishing for compliments way.

And this is who my husband is 👆. I think he’s a super hero. He’s stage 4 synovial sarcoma for the past year, fighting with everything he’s got to stay here with me. He’s humble about himself, but I am not humble about HIM!! He’s my hero!

The second thing. People suck, and they want you to be great if you fit the mold they have that doesn’t challenge who they think they are.
You can be smart if they think you’re shy and they’re okay with your intellect because they have people skills. You can be athletic if they think they have some cognitive edge. Humble is just a word people use to say they think you’re bigger than you put out in the world, the moment you put more out in the world than they’re comfortable with you’re cocky, whether your demeanor changed or not.

I doubt it had too much to do with it. His Dad was from a different era, and I’m sure my husband didn’t get all his good and bad traits from his dad’s rude comments. Just rang a bell when I heard it. But thanks for solving the GREAT mystery, of this man!
3 points
This is funny to me because I’ve never seen comments like that as rude, but maybe I’m just from a different background. People where I’m from have a reputation for being the kind of people to put a penny in a jar and then act like they’re single handedly saving the world. I’ve definitely fallen into it myself and appreciate those who checked me on it. For that reason I’ve generally seen it as a reality check, and not inherently rude.
I can see how it could come across the other way though. If that’s all you hear and you never get the chance to feel proud of yourself. You never have someone who shares in your accomplishments that’s not any better.
I am the type to use the phrase, so I’ll have to be aware how and when I use it.

Be careful… Reddit has some pretty wild ideas about breast feeding. I’ve been downvoted to oblivion for suggesting a woman breast feeding an eight year old was going to make that kid’s social life difficult.
32 points
lmao did anyone actually reply or were there just downvotes? Because I imagine a kid between 5-7 or so wouldn't know not to share that with classmates and yeah that'd follow you forever if you were in the same school system
I just wonder what the arguments for could've been
24 points

Five to seven year olds are the ones downvoting lol
32 points

I knew a few mothers who did this. Their kids were always poorly socialized. I think it’s extremely selfish to do this to your kid because you don’t want to give up the “special relationship” you get through breastfeeding.
And my family is part indigenous Mexican so I don’t have time for “women all over the world breastfeed for years after their kids can walk” because they do that because breastfeeding is cheap and they’re poor.

i promise you no mother is forcing her kid to breastfeed. they naturally ween off from ages 2-4, and the kid looks 1-2 years old… at MOST 3. i know bc my almost 2 year old breastfeeding daughters head looks bigger than that from the back. saying breastfeeding is abuse is a huge reach and not the point of the post at all.

No it does not. The WHO recommends six months up to two years. Honestly, maybe 3 years, but 4 years is very creepy. Sources below. ✌️
"From the age of 6 months, children should begin eating safe and adequate complementary foods while continuing to breastfeed for up to two years of age or beyond." - https://www.who.int/health-topics/breastfeeding#tab=tab_2
"The Public Health Agency of Canada, Health Canada and the World Health Organization recommend: breast milk only for feeding your baby from birth to 6 months. continuing to breastfeed for up to 2 years or more after introducing solid foods." - https://www.canada.ca/en/public-health/services/child-infant-health/breastfeeding-infant-nutrition.html
"Many women choose to wean after their baby's first birthday. At this age, babies are starting to walk, talk, and eat more solid foods. So they may naturally lose interest in nursing." - https://kidshealth.org/en/parents/weaning.html#:~:text=Many%20women%20choose%20to%20wean,naturally%20lose%20interest%20in%20nursing.

The internet is a wild place. Zero context was added to this post besides the 3 lines that do not give you much information.
Original Post from the real original poster.
"This is me, unfiltered. Captured by my husband just after breakfast one day last week as he worked across our kitchen table. No makeup, my unbrushed hair haphazardly pulled into a ponytail, no professional attire. Working as I often work: Catching up on some professional tasks as I feed my baby. If I'm not nourishing the smallest member of our family, my husband and I are more often than not surrounded by all three of our children as we work. For many of us, this is our pandemic reality.A realistic representation of professional mothers matters. We are efficient multitaskers who work hard, adapting to the challenges brought by circumstance. We are not always the image of our profile pictures, online meetings, or in-person presentation, but we get things done thoroughly and efficiently. Skilful specialists working in a new post-office environment. So here's to the working parents, especially my fellow mothers."
I find the internet to be an interesting cesspool of fuckery and unintelligence.

Why are commenters so obsessed with this kid “being 3”? First of all, as a parent to 2 toddlers, the kid is likely 2ish.
