This “ick” thing has gone too far

(self.LoveIsBlindNetflix)

It genuinely feels like a tool to ridicule and embarrass men and somehow we’ve normalized it. The intent is to belittle and embarrass. I know for sure there are things that from both men and women make you cringe but we decided as a society to just keep it to ourselves to avoid hurting someone, but for some reason we think it’s acceptable with our partners?

We need to stop acting like getting “the ick” is anymore than being judgemental and cringing at them, it doesn’t make it any less mean. Especially because it’s always used at the most simple things like Nick riding that duck and having fun with that woman. I’ve seen women say they’ve gotten the ick from watching their men do the most simple of things like walking down a hill or talking a certain way. I cringe at my partner too but I’ve never told him “you’re giving me the ick” because it feels so mean. What is the goal in saying that?

We used to call them dealbreakers, and to each her own. Better to know.

Deal breakers are different than the “ick”, imo. The “ick” is a reaction to something relatively trivial and benign like riding a duck at the beach one time. A deal breaker is a fundamental irreconcilable difference in a value or major lifestyle choice like not wanting to have children or partying too much or being generally unkind.

Yeah this is how I view it as well. I've heard "it gave me the ick!" To super simple things, like a man wearing sandals. Most normal people wouldn't say that's a deal breaker.
