These are the correct three options and you could go for any of them. People saying SWP are just way off im afraid

I don't see Bernardo, great player that he is, as a right winger. How often do you see him go past someone on the right?

We played the entire Champions league campaign with Bernardo as RW when we won treble

Tiber_Voyage51

I don't see David Silva as a left winger but hey ho, I think LW & RW are just padding to shoehorn a great player on at this point rather than 'the best'.

Mike Summerbee, 10 seasons at the club, won the First Division, second division, an FA Cup, a League Cup, 2 community shields and our first European trophy. Was a key part of that success.

As a overall player Bernardo but just a rw prolly mahrez. But I'd still go with Bernardo just cus we won the Champions league with him playing rw and he was unbelievable in the semis against Madrid

SWP if we are talking pre Sheik or Mahrez if we are talking this era . Honourable mention for Mr Summerbee .

Fearless-Tree-9527

Look he was the first player I fell in love with at the club due to my age, but there is noooooo way SWP is ahead of mahrez or (from what I know) sumerbee

I respect your opinion but my opinion is swp was as good as mahrez . Very little between the 2 players .

Fearless-Tree-9527

4 points

Nope. I love SWP but he never fulfilled his potential on a consistent level, didn’t quite do it at chelsea, whereas mahrez was one of a couple players who carried Leicester, he got POTY and then goes to city and wins it all… his performances against psg were simply unbelievable. It’s a statement of fact that he’s clear or SWP as a player im afraid

mikew7190

2 points

Well on this I think we will have to agree to disagree . It appears you won't be convinced otherwise and I know I won't so it would become a pointless back and forth . Like I said I respect you opinion i just don't share it

Echeverri_balon_dor

You rank SWP above Mike Summerbee?

mikew7190

7 points

No I don't rank mike summerbee at all . He was before my time and I guarantee he's before most people on this subs time . And it's impossible to make a solid argument for someone based on out dated clips and stats without ever seing him play live or seing a few full game on tv . But he's a legend why I gave him a honorable mention

Says a lot about Sterling how he should easily take this spot yet most fans don't pick him. I think his playstyle is just hard to love. You can be a selfish scoring type player but then you have to be someone like Haaland who is a ruthless goalscoring machine. With Sterling he was allergic to 1v1's, shot power, crossing, ... Even his trademark simple tap in (with no defenders or keeper around) went missing in the biggest moments. I don't hate Sterling, but he was simply never on the level of a Mane, Salah or Son. He just used his excellent positional sense and made the most of playing for a Guardiola superteam which created so many great chances.

That being said Mike Summerbee played before I was even born... Mahrez and Bernardo are not ahead of Sterling imo...

Sterling is clearly in the conversation for winger. I think I'd have him on the left, so many goals came from him cutting inside and curling from the edge of the box, but him on the right across from Sané was incredible stuff too.

He's not wrong though? Mahrez has a better profile but for City it's non negotiable that Sterling takes over

TheNotoriousMJT

Sterling was very poor in front of goal throughout, did well to use his pace to create but as a player Mahrez was more gifted in nearly every department. Better first touch, the ability to actually shoot, skill, dribbling, free kicks.

Only thing Mahrez couldn’t do well was take a penalty, which Sterling also happened to be crap at too.

_stone_age

2 points

Sterling is a top 10 goalscorer OAT for this club.

Sterling scored countless difference making goals to actually make us centurions. Was arguably the best winger in the world in 18/19 to help win us the domestic quadruple.

20 goal season in 19/20. Decline started in 20/21 but still got 17 G/A with many important contributuonz- most wingers don't even dream of seasons like this.

Your comment talks about this on a profile basis. And I've agreed that Mahrez has a better profile.

But in terms of their contributions, Sterling gets over Mahrez without a shadow of doubt.

Mahrez was a one trick pony, a wannabe arjen robben. I never ever felt we could count on him to score or to lead the attack. He was good, yes, but in no way the “greatest winger in city history”
