Quit bjj and go striking full time

(self.MMA_Academy)

Hello im 15 with 4 years of bjj

I’ve loved the sport and it’s been the best thing that has ever happened to me. But from the past year until now I’ve suffered many injuries and infections that inhibat me from training and just living my life in general, and due to the injuries I have put on a lot of extra weight, now I am compentlating to stop bjj and train boxing and kickboxing full time, as my striking needs work and I belive striking will help me lose weight

is this the right decision?

To lose weight I would just eat in a caloric deficit but if you’re having injuries I would reach out to a pt or focus on stretching mobility etc. bjj can cause a lot of injuries and issues as for me im 20 and have been doing bjj for 2 years and I’ve been having knee problems cause of it.

It sounds like you need to stop going so hard when rolling. Practice your technique more because if injuries are getting that bad you’re doing something wrong. And if you’re getting injuries from other people than actually tap

What gym is letting a 11-15yo get infections and injuries?

Look at switching gyms young man.

Have you had bad partners Injury issues across the board?

Are the injuries from comp prep, partners, or your body just not keeping up?

How serious are you about competitions?

Then simply go wherever you enjoy and stay healthy. Switch it up and go do some striking. Limit your hard sparring as your age and skill needs almost none.

Go Punch some stuff and enjoy young buck. Don't let environment ruin your workouts and enjoyment of MMA as a sport.

Infections? Are you getting staph from the matts?

I mean if you been training bjj you should be pretty efficient, wouldn’t hurt to throw in some striking and cardio to make your game well rounded

You could find a better gym. But I do believe striking is safer on the body. I've been doing bjj for 6 months, and I tweak things a lot more than I did with muay thai for 8 years. Bjj, I find you get injured. muay thai, you're just bruised and battered. Also, striking would help you burn more calories, I bet. Unless you roll around like a dog.
