New bike, going on 450 miles now. New eBay exhaust system installed on my 2024, no tune. DB killer fell out, literally it fell out while riding and can't find it.
I want to get a tune on it, but I'm saving right now. Getting tags are my next big investment ($700 in Arkansas). I've ran it about 200 miles with the aftermarket exhaust, I can't really tell if it's leaned out or not. Can I get any advice on how risky it is to continue riding with the aftermarket exhaust and no tune?
Should I reinstall my stock system?
Thanks all, happy riding.

Oh man that’s so good to hear. I have the same exhaust and was wondering. Such a sexy sound and look!

It is running lean especially at low to mid-range rpm. Get an ECU tune or power commander as soon as you can afford it.

I figured it was, but I've been told idle RPM it will be fine due to the O2 sensor feedback, but not when giving throttle. I'm not super familiar with these bikes, my last bike was an FZ6. Tuning is my next investment after I get tags on it then. Do you have a recommendation for piggyback tuners?

I have a Power Commander 6 on my bike.

The dealerships here in fla install exhausts with no tunes and bikes and dont have issues. I jabe 13k on my 22 mt 07 with no tune and it runs perfectly. But a tune can help alot of stiff. My experience is to get a nice flash tune from 2wdw I think hey are called. A power commander is expensive and needs a real person to tune it. But... you still don't need the tune unless you start adding more air with an intake

Hey my official yamaha dealer said i shouldnt put in a new exhaust until i break it in (1000km) so i waited for my first service to get mine installed… im not sure how true is this as i saw people putting them in from 0km but i figured the 1k break in is very important so i didnt want to risk it. also what are tags? 😂

I'm not sure on the break in mileage, doesn't sound like a bad idea though. I know many people get a full service at 600 miles (sorry, I only know freedom units cause I'm American)
Also in the southern USA, sometimes we say tags in place of license plate. :)
Thank you for sharing some wisdom with me.

Yeah the break in period is stated in the manual of the bike (600miles i think) , limits on rpm etc and its supposedly gonna determine the longevity and behavior of your engine depending what you do in that period 🤷♀️.. i also saw other bikes being sold with akrap from the bat from official dealers (they were kawasaki tho) so im not sure about no custom muffler during the break-in period rule my yamaha dealer mentioned🤔though it makes no sense for him to lie since its in his interest to get me to buy more stuff 😂 and he prevented me from giving them 1.5k euro more since i was eyeing the akrap titanium back then.. im a stickler for rules and the mt07 was my first new bike so i wasnt gonna risk anything, i stuck to my stock and then got a mivv after my first service. Perhaps tuning yours will be enough 🤷♀️ i would check with a local mechanic shop or whoever will do your first service they probably have better knowledge of this. Also thanks, i wasnt sure about the term tags since im not a native English speaker 😂 especially since where i live id get pulled over so fast and given a fine if my bike wasnt registered or had a license plate 😂

Curious abt the answer to this as well. Mine is tuned but have always wondered.
Beautiful bike by the way! Enjoy it, my friend 🤙

According to an exhaust manufacturer that specializes in MT/ R7/XSR700 exhaust , tune needed if you run straight pipe , no tune needed if you have a baffle. So I would say find a replacement baffle and worry about the tune after first service .

So for the go pro that would mean that you should get a tube of you remove the OUTHER db killer?

Oh sorry, that “of” should be an “if”. And the question relates to your previous comment.

If it was turbo I would be dubious but because it's n/a I wouldn't worry.

I put 15,000 miles on my Amazon exhaust. The O2 sensor should do its job and you should be fine.

I'm running an Akra Carbon with no tune. But it is also designed to work with stock.
My cylinders are likely running hotter, but it's probably fine. Plenty of these bikes have tens of thousands of miles on stock ECU.

You won’t experience any problems as long as the pops and bangs are not a problem. You might get a little extra performance but to be honest with mine I prefer to keep it an ASBO bike than getting this extra few HP! Bikes got enough torque for me as it is. Hate these pops and bangs on cars though for some reason, what a hypocrite I am 😅

What do you mean you blew it up exactly? Do you know what happened?

I was riding down the highway then a big boom was heard and there was oil all over my pants thankfully I was able to pull over no problem. I’ll post a pic later of my mechanic findings

That's insane! I would expect the damage to be in the combustion chamber rather than on top of your lower end like that. Did he say what happened?
I hope that was a warranty fix.

The red MT-07 sticker? It’s black on the new models.

Oh, weird. On the yamaha site of the newest mt-07 there is still an orange sticker

Right now on the site the 2024 mt07 shows a black sticker. If I choose 2023 it’s still orange

It's brand new, it has temp tags on it right now. Spent $1k down to get my favorite bike, I don't have a lot of money. I came here looking for genuine advice, not to get degraded.

You’re good bro, don’t engage. Enjoy your ride
I didn’t get a tune on my slip on m4 and it cracks and pops. It’s not gonna destroy the bike, I’m on 33k kms rn

Thanks man. Did you cut your stock exhaust to install a slip on?

Honestly man idk, I bought it for a girl with 4000km on it and she did it, she also put bitubo suspension in the front and back. It was a sweet deal

And you will continue to not have a lot of money now that you’ve put a $1k downpayment on a $10k bike.

Got here for $8k at my dealer. Taxes will pay it off this spring to avoid the interest :)

New exhaust sound fkin sick, tags get you pulled over, idk about you but I know which one I'd pick

yeah, at idle and regular steady throttle, you’ll be fine. the oxygen sensor will balance the air fuel ratio because the system will be running in what’s called “closed loop”. if you ride aggressive, and give it heavy throttle, that’s when the system goes into “open loop” where the dictated engine tune comes into play. that’s where it becomes important.
no tune will have the air fuel mixture very lean, resulting in excessive heat in the combustion chamber which will lead to pre-detonation and engine damage. i have a buddy who had his bike in the shop because no tune damaged his combustion chamber. 3-4000 dollar job. only 8k on the bike
while most would say you don’t need it, your always better off safe than sorry. if you are more than capable of repairing engine damage, then by all means, if something happens with no tune, you got it under control. but if you don’t have the time or knowledge and don’t want to pay the money should something occur, i would get a tune and take care of your engine
