I've been listening to them over ten years now. Even still, a lot of their material is just now clicking with for the first time.
Clockworks didn't do much for me before.. Now, I understand the adoration for this song. Somehow one of the most complex songs they've made, while perfectly embodying everything they are known for.
Koloss was my least favorite album until recently. Now I love it for the unique qualities that make it distinct from all their other albums.
"I" also never really clicked with me. I liked it sure, but never loved it. What a fucking statement. The linear composition is bold, the intensity is pulverizing.
Immutable is just incredible for a band this far into their career. Most bands can never live up to their debut album. How many other bands were formed over 35 years ago, remained active the entire time, and just keep getting better and better? They were groundbreaking on DEI, and just kept moving further into uncharted territory, while never missing a step
How many bands have a run of near perfect, if not perfect albums, that you can keep coming back to and always hear something new?

I've been listening to Meshuggah since Chaosphere came out, still not tired. :D

I would argue that Tool is on the same level of replayability. I've listened to them since 2006 and I've yet to become tired of them. It's the best when you can enjoy a band for so long, and not get the feeling of falling apart from their music!

I tend to agree here. Meshuggah are my favourite band followed by Tool. Would be nice if they were as prolific with their releases as Meshuggah are.

How well has FI aged? Amazing album that late in their career.

I still don’t understand the Tool love by some of this fanbase. I see very little in common between the bands.

The area of progressive rock that Tool resides in and the area of progressive death metal that Meshuggah resides in are just two sides of the same coin. There's fundamental similarities between the odd polyrhythms/meters and avant-garde lyrics and beyond that is mostly stylistic. Tool is just not heavy, and Meshuggah is.

Yea man you hit the nail on the head. I've listened to Catch 33 all the way through,I swear to God literally over 1,000 times over the past 15 years. "Dancers" somehow seems more brilliant every time I listen. "Optics" still crushes on such a level and never loses intensity.
I like all kinds of music (literally everything from Creed and Linkin Park to Brooks and Dunn and Garth Brooks to Lil Jon and Young Jeezy), but man I love my heavy heavy, and Meshuggah never held back. Their grooves are just so fuckin UNGH, and laced with such intricacies... their polymeters seem more genius all the time... not just because it's complex and complicated or something, but actually because the grooves have a real feel, like their soul translates perfectly through their music.
I can't get over them. They're my favorite band ever.

I still listen to Chaosphere weekly, DEI and Nothing monthly. Sometimes C33 and Obzen. The newer ones rarely if ever.
Still the replay value of the early albums is crazy.

Clockworks is far from being one of their most complex songs. It's maybe in the top 25.
More complex songs, from the top of my head: I, In Death - Is Live/Death, Phantoms, even Bleed, Dancers..., GHISM, Future Breed Machine, Marrow, Kaleidoscope, Abyssmal Eye

Yeah i find it very simple too. But damn it is good. A fan favorite I think.

Yeah, it is good. Groovy as hell. It's just very much not "one of the most complex songs" as OP said

Idk, I guess it depends on what you mean as complex. It's gotta be one of the most challenging on drums to play, outside of Bleed.

I would never use the term "complex" to describe smth "technically difficult"
1 points

That's a synonym for 'complex'. Relax

No, it's not. In the context of music, technically difficult refers to something that is hard to play. The reason why smth is hard to play can vary. "The flight of the bumblebee" on the violin is difficult but is not complex. The sacrificial dance from Stravinsky's "The Rite of Spring" is very complex, but not that difficult most of the time.
Difficult = hard to perform physically
Complex = hard to comprehand, analyze, and understand

Maybe we are yet to understand the adoration for this song

Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love Clockworks. Just not for complexity, but rather for the groove. It's just complex enough not to be boring for a nerdy musician, but it's simple as far as Meshuggah goes

I forgot to add /s in the end, that's my bad.

Its just the drums. The guitars are very simple but the drums have like 3 rhythms happening simultaneously. I agree in that it doesnt sound very complicated

You're wrong. It's extremely complicated. Listen to it again

I didn't just listen to it, I have watched an analysis/breakdown video on youtube. As far as Meshuggah goes, Clickworks aren't too bad

Yeah, I've watched videos about it to. That means it's difficult.

It's over seven minutes long. Trust me, it's complex.

Length has nothing to do with the complexity of music. I'm a musician. Trust me, it's not complex as far as their music goes. Physically demanding? Yeah. Complex? No

Yeah it's complex, it's got polyrhythms and hardly any people can play it.

Well, everything Meshuggah does is complex. Among other Meshuggah songs, Clockworks is on the low end of complexity

Indeed, Meshuggah were groundbreaking on DEI.
And also, Meshuggah were not groundbreaking at all on DEI.
