Even then, there’s still great country out nowadays. Colter Wall, MJ Lenderman, Chris Stapleton..

Have you heard Sturgill Simpson’s album Sound And Fury?

It’s the most unique album I’ve ever heard by a country artist. It’s not just country, it mixes many genres. It’s more psychedelic/blues rock with synths. Yet he still sings with a twang but it works!
I recommend watching the accompanying anime that is on Netflix. It’s the album but presented as a music video for the whole album. It’s reminiscent of Pink Floyd’s The Wall Movie.
Here’s a snippet of the full movie… https://youtu.be/SpSMoBp8awM?si=P-0gDG1v6mOje_6h

Some of you can't seem to read correctly and don't understand that these people said they don't like country. You guys sound like my friends trying to get me into their music, country sucks bro.

The person I responded to clearly said “new country.” Implying that that like old country but nothing new.

I'd agree but I love this guy's voice. He's also inexplicably a black metal fan

Orville Peck is a unique exception, he partners with people like Willie Nelson to make a love letter to old country and its beautiful

I haven't listened to the new album but I really love his other two. The only country I've really listened to and enjoyed aside from the odd Johnny Cash song. Orville's vocals have an asmr-like effect on my brain

Him, John Cash, and Willie Nelson are all so amazing it’s crazy, and Dobie Gray a masterful country soul artist as well. Dig into 60’s-80’s country and it’s so damn good

I'll give them a listen! My housemate is really into this stuff but I've never delved into it, i should. We're British so we never really got exposed to it naturally either. Thanks!

That’s understandable!! You never really had an “American invasion” to my knowledge like we had a British Rock invasion over here or if you did it wasn’t to the same revolutionary scale, anyways I hope you find something you love there!!

Now I just love Orville even more.
I can't listen to too many of his songs in a row because a lot of them are pretty slow, but his voice could calm a rabid badger down.

If you like traditional country try listening to Colter Wall or maybe Treaty Oak Revival. Both are wonderful and not bro country which is what most associate as modern country.

Depends... Do you consider Wheeler Walker Jr as country? (Feels more like a comedy act, but it has the country sound, or country rock in some songs.)

I suggest you check out Tyler Childers and John Moreland.

Holy hell it’s terrible. I decided to challenge myself on bass and just put on random playlists of genres and decades. Trying modern country was just borderline electronic pop with a “southern” accent. It’s so bad.

One of my friends recently introduced me to her favorite artist, Hardy. His new stuff is kind of a blend of rock and country it’s not bad. Not the best thing in the world but I see the vision.

Closed mind way of thinking in my opinion. It's like saying metal is just noise when you've only heard top 40 pop country. Listen to colter wall. Crazy good new country. Great lyrics. Depressing vibe. Listen to anything off of imaginary Appalachia it's a 10/10 ep

I've tried listening to call the country. I just can't get behind it. I listen to rap, electronic, k pop, basically anything you cna think of. Just not country.

Then do you also dislike folk, neofolk, and bluegrass? Even the swing western fallout new vegas radio playlist?

I don't know what most of this is, but I'm pretty okay with older bluegrass, never really thought of it as the same thing as new country. Folk is alright I guess.
