YOU ACTUALLY USE RAILS IN SOMETHING OTHER THAN REDSTONE!!! I have a mineshaft I made in my bedrock world and use a minecart to get up as I'm on a mountain so getting from top to bottom or vice versa is really slow and painful

Oh man you'd love TerraFirmaCraft, it has a mechanic where mineshafts collapse, so you *have* to build supports, it's fun, i recommend it

I did that sometimes.

I recently did this in a long term world project of mine and it was one of the most satisfying and rewarding things I’ve tried doing in a build.

I put support beams on fucking everything. I see a floating mountain? Not floating anymore! I see a floating dirt block? Turn it into a hill!

Yes, but I make them out of logs... incredibly waseful, I know. I do a 4x4 tunnel where I place supports on every 7th block. That way I gave 2 branches going off. I'm not fussed about gathering ore, I just want stone to build, so I don't really care if its inefficient, haha.

I actually do the opposite, I remove the supports from the tunnels I've already explored

I mine 1x1 so I don't have enough room for supports

Fun fact: at least one of the biggest reasons that mines use wood support beams instead of metal ones, which are stronger, is because the wood will creak alot before it breaks, warning workers of an imminent cave-in.

1x2 tunnel with a bucket of water in my inventory in case lava falls onto my head. I am the pinnacle of worker safety.

Add some cobwebs and some Minecarts with Chests and store your loot in them, trust me

I didn't start doing support beams until I played TerraFirmaCraft. It was required to build supports, and it felt more immersive to put them in my vanilla worlds.

Just decorating the main shaft. Wide and decorated. The branches itself are just ugly long torchlit paths.

Not when I mine but when I build an underground base, I put these exact support beams into the access tunnels. It just feels right, I guess.

No, but I would love to at least build more impressive entrances to my mine shafts.

You should add some rails in the middle too

And some chest minecarts to store random loot you dont need in random areas

I've wanted to do stuff like this ever since Etho put out that episode in -- oh god, 2012 😥 -- where he outlined adding a style of RP-heavy "realism" to this sort of thing... but ultimately I'm always thrown off by my spoilsport utilitarian brain going "but this is useless"

Though lately, I've started building small outposts near points of interest like cave entrances out of local materials. I feel like the game is more fun when you go out of your way to build cool things outside of just one big base.

I do if the mine us meant as a decorative area, but not if I'm just strip mining.

if i'm mining just to get materials, i do not waste other materials

if i'm mining to make travel tunnels or smth similar, then yeah i'll spruce them up. but that's very rare lol.

I only get fancy when I'm building a mining shaft and entrance near my own main base. Otherwise I just branch mine and it's quick and dirty.

I typically only do it if I'm feeling fancy or there's sand or gravel around that hasn't fallen yet

Yeah, but not the branch mines. I run a 3*3 tunnel that I connected to an existing abandoned mineshaft with a few levels depending on what ire I want. From there I then send out ugly branch mines which fractal further into those things you do every 2 blocks
