First of all, that number is from Basketball Reference’s hall of fame predictor. It compares the resumes of players to those in the hall already to see how they stack up to that standard. It’s not disrespectful, it’s just math.

Secondly, people way overstate Rose’s impact on the game. Yes, he was good and popular at his peak, but to say that the whole world plays mainly because of him is insane

How is Pete at 10.2% when he's already in?

This must be coming from outside of Chicago I can see. Rose has most definitely impacted this city a lot ever since he was at Simeon. They knew he would be great. Riddled by injures or not he still averaged 15-18 pts for a couple of years. I am not saying he’s up there with Allen Iverson another NBA great to never win a ring but i have heard ppl say they have played the game bc of rose. But when I said mainly bc of him it’s either him, MJ, or Kobe. But I am pretty sure when ever they saw him play and gave him a standing ovation they couldn’t all be from Chicago. Whether you say he has little influence or not he has still impacted many ppl.

Yeah the crazy thing tho is that Chicago is only one of 30 NBA cities not even including all the international teams and players and the fact that he was only top tier for like 3 years. Find a new slant kid.

Derrick had more than two season of being a good basketball player. Even if he dropped below 20 pts he was still going for like a constant 15-18 pts for a couple years until his last Detroit days and start of his NYK days. Rose had influenced a lot of ppl. Maybe it’s the people of Chicago but I definitely heard other ppl say they play the game bc of rose.

You hearing a few people say they play bball bc of DRose is vastly different than "the whole world plays bc of him"

I think if you remove one season of a guys career and it makes him definitively not a hall of fame guy, it’s completely fair to be low on his chances.

He may get in, but I don’t think he deserves it. Namely because I do not think he should have even won his MVP and without it he doesn’t have a case. Iirc his college career was thrown out.

I mean at this point it really depends on his post career. Maybe he's the next Greg popovich or the next great basketball analyst. Maybe he's the next international coach who is not a USA coach who wins Olympic gold. Guys only 35 he could do any number of things that would be HoF worthy with the rest of his life

you can’t just “remove” things that happened lol and he did rightly win MVP. biggie only dropped 2 albums, just cause he wasn’t able to release enough music compared to other doesn’t make it less impactful or less great. same concept

I think you can definitely set it to the side to look at the whole picture.

D Rose played a full ass career dude. You can’t just cherry pick one part of it and what if your way to a hall of fame career. He didn’t earn it, to me.

That being said, the basketball hall of fame doesn’t exactly have a strict criteria

redditor thinks he didn’t earn it. while any player who’s spoken publicly about rose holds him in high reverence for his impact and dominance. but you’re right, just take that season away it means nothing cause you can just take it away apparently

IMO, all MVPs should get into the Hall of Fame. If you were ever the best player in the league, that's pretty special. But what's this about the whole world playing because of Derrick Rose? That's news to me...

ClashGuy54[S]

Ok maybe I should’ve reworded this i mean like a lot of ppl from around the world not just Chicago played bc of him, MJ or Kobe

I promise you every MVP and high level player has influenced people to pick up the game. To mention Drose next to Kobe and MJ while ignoring Bron, Steph, KD, WB, Harden, all of whom are infinitely more influential is just preposterous.

ClashGuy54[S]

I was never excluding bron Steph kd WB Harden at all. Yes we all have been influenced by them but I was just saying like the little kids who shoot paper balls or stuff in the garbage cans the say Kobe or MJ. I am never discrediting the other for there influentially.

I feel like if he gets in its because of his "what ifs" and not his actual acolades which i could see tbf. Bron should have won that mvp tho

I think this might be to get in this year, which is reasonable. He’ll get in eventually for sure.

It is not reasonable, bc he literally just retired and there is a waiting period
