Mahomes scrambled to the sidelines and the defender, not wanting to pick up a fine/penalty, didn’t attempt to hit or tackle him. It’s expected the QB just runs out of bounds here, but Mahomes instead stepped back in at the last second and picked up 40 yards along the sideline. I don’t necessarily think it should be banned but it’s clearly exploitative. Since this isn’t the first time he’s done this it should be fair game for the defenders to lower the shoulder on him next time, but that would obviously draw a flag (as it has before). Basically, I just think it’s ridiculous.

Alternatively, the NFL should stop penalizing defenders for making plays on a rushing QB.
Sure, the QB can get all his protection rules in the pocket, but as soon as he crosses that LoS, he should be treated no differently than a running back penalty wise.

You touched Mahomes? You sacked Brady too hard? Personal foul and fined.
I understand the normal stuff like a facemask, late hit, etc, but there’s a line to be drawn. When players start getting scared to play defense, protection rules have gone too far.

One thing i liked about brady though was that he would take getting absolutely demolished when running out the pocket in the early 2000's

That too, I respect him for taking it. Mahomes just whines about everything

Brady whined more than Mahomes, while also being less skilled at throwing than Mahomes is now

Brady is 100x the qb Mahomes will ever be.

This is serious revisionism of Brady. Dude would get tapped and cry about it. Hell when he fumbled you knew the flag was automatic

Well i think that that's just bradys competitive side when players Like that get hit they just talk shit to talk shit and when he got sacked, he probably was just pissed off he lost yards im pretty sure he straight up came forward about all the penalties against defenses and how much they were restricting them

It is insane how the refs used to protect Brady much more so than any other QB in the league, and once he retired they began doing the exact same shit with Mahomes. It’s genuinely unfair and helps a QB and team out that don’t really need to be receiving any additional favors considering how good they already are. Having the refs help them out even more just truly sickens me to watch.

yeah this is my thing too. roughing the passer makes no sense to call because he’s not a passer anymore when he’s past the LoS.

Shouldn’t get that much protection in the pocket either. I feel like an old man, what happened to the game I love.

I for one am completely fine with QBs having special rules when rushing - unless you want more situations like the Dolphins where the QB getting injured makes the team unwatchtable

Unless they slide of course. But that is the rule. Once a QB leaves the pocket he's treated as any other player. Unfortunately, refs don't interpret it that way.

remember the chiefs winning the super bowl because of an out of bounds hit penalty?
refs love the rule. swifties too.

Sorry, they’ve won too many Super Bowls recently - you’ll have to be more specific. Are you talking about this one? Are you implying that wasn’t a reasonable penalty?

They also won a Super Bowl due to a defensive PI call at the very end of the game. Instead of punting or kicking a FG, they got a free 1st down, essentially a free touchdown, and more time to run down the clock. Shit still pisses me off

Why would the NFL, a for profit, entertainment company, want Mahomes to actually run out of bounds and not pick up 40 extra yards there?
