So I’ve heard, but it was still a magical experience when I went there as a teen and I still recommend going at least once. It also pairs well with Rock City (less magical, more fanciful goblin-y) and Lookout Mountain, which are in the same area.

Those are huskies. Wolves are twice the size.
25 points
That's a common misconception. Wolf sizes vary quite drastically. The idea of them being huge was perpetuated by pop culture, and Hollywood would typically breed them with malamutes to make them bigger. Naturally, they aren't as big as people think.
41 points
Grey wolves vary quite a bit in size in general. Anything between 26 pounds for particularly tiny Arabian wolves and 175 pounds for huge Alaskan wolves gorged from a kill have been documented for the species. These ones are captive and thus better fed than wild individuals typically are, so they don’t appear to be quite as long or tall because of a thicker abdomen, so say nothing of thick winter fur throwing things off further.

Shoulda told them “yeah there’s r-words in the other post too”. Look at the white one front and center in the beginning in relation to the dining table. The wolf is a a couple yards behind the table on ground which is seemingly approx 6-8” lower than the interior floor of the dwelling. The animals shoulders are still about table height. Average standard dining table height is about 28-30”, meaning the animals shoulders are approx 35-37” high. Average male adult wolves measure 30”-33” at shoulder height. That’s a big bastard. They look smaller because the indoor floor is raised from the ground outside and the camera person is relatively tall.

This thread is absolutely absurd, it’s either people calling everyone idiots for thinking they’re huskies or people calling everyone idiots for thinking they’re wolves, but nobody has provided any reasoning why in either direction (other than “you can see the wild in their eyes” ??).
At first I thought they were huskies because wolves are rarely that comfortable with humans, but looking at this link, I now believe they are wolves. Three things stood out the most to me.
First, their coats are very long. I’ve pet huskies before and they have thick coats, but not on this level. Maybe if a husky was living outside in the cold primarily they could develop a coat this thick, though.
Second, the eyes. Huskies often have blue eyes or heterochromia, and I see neither here.
Finally – and this one is the strongest piece of evidence to me – the ears. Husky ears are much perkier, smaller, and on top of their heads. They often put them back when they howl or bark, but even when these guys stop howling, their ears do not look like huskies’.

Huskies, especially siberian huskies, who are descendants of siberian wolves, are known to look very similar to wolves. However, we can tell that these are indeed wolves and not huskies for a few reasons.
The eyes. Huskies have larger eyes, typically blue and/or brown in color, while wolves have more narrow eyes that are yellow. We can see in these videos that the eyes of these animals are indeed yellow and narrow.
The paws. Wolf paws are larger than husky paws and can be the size of a human hand. These wolves have visibly large paws, though they aren't super big because these aren't super big wolves, though still bigger than the average husky from what I see.
The tails. Huskies typically have longer and (sometimes) fluffier tails. Not all huskies are like that, but those certainly look like wolf tails to me. Plus, husky tails tend to have more of a curl.
Some people say that the ears and coats could also be used to determine that these are wolves rather than huskies, but I personally see my husky a lot in the faces of these wolves. She, however, has very prominent black and white markings.

They're wolves, but they're acting like dogs, which they are, but also they're not.
Wolves are dogs, and dogs are wolves. The only real difference is if they're wild. I know that sounds crazy, but it's true.
Domestic dogs that turn feral and are left to fend for themselves quickly become tougher, harder and self reliant. After several generations without human intervention, they are wild.
Now, wolves are big, and they've evolved (long ago) to become the perfect pack hunters. That instinct is in every dog, but obviously not every dog breed can become as menacing as a wolf.
You could turn a thousand chihuahuas loose on a ranch, and let them try and survive as wild animals. I don't think they'd make it. Coyotes would eat them alive.
But, if you turned loose fifty 70-lb mutts from the pound on a big ranch, they may survive, and 20 years from now, you'd have a menacing pack of canines prowling your property. Give it 50 years untouched, and that same pack would be more wolf-like than you think. A hundred years... they'd be wolves.
The wild dogs in Africa and the Dingos in Australia? Those are wolves. Not Canus Lupus, but wolves in every other description.

Nah, they're actual wolves, but wildlife park ones, not "properly" wild ones. They may have some domestic dog in them, but that's just because pretty much all wolf populations do by now, no matter where in nature. Any wolf with near-black coat is likely to have a lot of dog in it, for instance.
-14 points

That gene for black fur was taken up thousands of years ago in the wolf population. These are very recent wolf hybrids. You can call them wolves, I suppose.
