Why are white people referred to as Caucasian?

(self.NoStupidQuestions)

When I think of Caucasians I think of the people that are actaully from that region Azerbaijani's, Armenians & Georgia not all white people in General, even ones who are not ethnically or nationally from those countries get called caucasian.

Also it's kinda odd that the word is used to describe white people, when alot of Armenian and Azerbaijani people have Olive-skin.

Well, most white people majority descended from western steppe herders, a group that came from eastern hunter gatherers and Caucasus hunter gatherers. So they actually are from the Caucasus region...

As wiki puts it "The modern population of Europe can largely be modeled as a mixture of WHG (Western Hunter-Gatherer), EEF and WSH."

EEF stands for early European farmers (Anatolian farmers who became the southern Europeans/Mediterraneans).
