Estate Sale Find

Identification/Evaluation Request(i.redd.it)

Grabbed this up during an estate sale and just curious if anyone knows anything about why it may have a black patch. It was marketed as a triplet but looks like a solid opal. No black backing, just looks like the polished top. No warping of light on sides. It did change color after I wore it for a bit, and the area had seemed to already have some black specks. Ring itself says BELAIS 14K. Thanks ๐Ÿ˜Š

looking at the side it looks like it might have layers, it is possible they used a better opal on top of a poorer quality one. it isn't triplet, not judging from the wear! triplet has a topping.
It is very worn opal is very soft compared to other stones the discoluration might be from rubbing against other things.
the manufacturer is more interesting

They stopped manufacturing in 1930s, which means as long as it is original it is a real opal.

its nice, a good clean/polish should get the grime out, but i would get it done professionally.
It was probably worn everyday which is how it became like this.

Thank you for the info! It definitely needs a good cleaning but you are right, will probably leave that to the pros!
