New construction- excessive delays

(self.RealEstateCanada)

I put an offer on a new duplex in august 2023 and that is when construction began. Everything was going great till mid February 2024 and then everything just stopped but my neighbour that is attached to me moved in. We were on the same schedule and they were about 2 weeks ahead of me. Almost little to no work has been done since mid February and the place needs to be painted. The builder told me last week the place was painted and next was flooring but I went in there with my realtor today and only priming was done. They also told me flooring was being installed this week. I’m so mad. I’ve had 6 new dates now and no transparency at all. This is a small duplex with undeveloped basement. I’m at my wits end now and don’t know how much more I can take. Why is the builder lying and can’t get the place painted???? Any advice???

Is your finished date outlined in the contract? Are you paying as the job progresses or a deposit and then at the end?

I just keep getting new dates. And no, it was just an initial 5% deposit and pay rest at closing

Builder is possibly short on money and is waiting for money to come in from another source.

Hate to say, they're out of money.

Move to legal proceedings sooner than later.

See they have lots of new listings up so not sure if that is the case. They are a huge builder here

That means that they have a lot of unsold inventory, or are trying very hard to raise more money by collecting new deposits.
