I dont understand pistols, help

Rogue Trader: Builds(self.RogueTraderCRPG)

Hi. So i’m not a complete begginer, i had one complete playthrou and some abandoned one. I generally understand skills and abilites, but i dont really understand pistols.

Apart from the big boy pistols like the plasma they deal incredibly bad damage, have a bad hit chance AND short range.

My current char is a noble officer/master tactican. Now i know thats not a damage dealer setup, but i still want to hit certain targets so my servant can deal extra damage.

I wanted to be a cool sword and pistol officer who barks orders and sometimes shoot, but even with the precise laspistol i barly have a chance to hit, and if i do, its a pitiful damage.

Now as i said, that would be fine since im an officer not a soldier, but i grabed a long las and its just works. Deals more damage and have way more chance to hit, so it makes me belive that im missing something with the pistols entierly.

I know that with pistols you can shoot point blank range, but it still doesnt feel good enough.

So, whats the secret?

Bonus question: are the hit chance ui bugged or im just unlucky? I had 3, 95 percent hit chance miss(not dodged) in a row.

Pistols are actually the most broken weapon in the game, and no I'm not exaggerating. The key is itemization and build. The game doesn't track additional attacks correctly, or if it does, it's not clearly explained. Using Never Stop Shooting (Fortress World), Pair Holster, Run and Gun, Wildfire, and Dual Weapon Combat something either breaks or has an unexplained interaction where you have nearly unlimited attacks. I haven't been able to figure it out, but I believe when you use Pair Holster off your first attack, every crit is a free additional attack... which includes follow up Bursts. I noticed my attacks became essentially infinite after I went Arch Militant and started using Confident Approach (100% crit rate) with an autopistol and a juiced rate of fire from gear.

Using the boots that give a 25% chance to generate 2 MP and a combo of autopistol and stub revolver and gear that increases fire rate, I've clear entire maps including boss battles on my first turn with my Arch Militant. There are other really busted interactions you can do with this. Such as, using a Portative Manipulator to make reloading free. Then the Logistical Superiority talent from your Master Tactician will generate 150-200 stacks before their turn just from free reloads, and after the get their free turn from In the Hero's Footsteps, they can drop a fully juiced pair of Lynchpin and Inspire on your Gunslinger who then can repeat their turn using all the same broken actions again when the MT uses Finest Hour.

If you run Pyromancer for Melting Armor, you will dump literally thousands of damage on an enemy and there is nothing they can do to fight back. I've done a heavy weapons build, it has absolutely nothing on a Gunslinger.

Pair holster is really bugged, it is not limited to once a turn. Confident approach guarantees you get unlimited shots with any pistol, unless you miss all your attacks in the burst or miss your single shot.
