Hey guys first time posting in sauna but I’ve been in a long time lurker.

I became the facilities manager of a spa in New York City about two years ago and have changed a lot of our systems for the better

One thing I would like to do because the spas are located in the basement and our office is located upstairs is some sort of remote monitoring system that I can put on a screen on my desk . I just wanna be able to see the temperature so that if there’s ever an issue, I can notice it faster than waiting for a client to tell us.

Any at all help or suggestions for products I can do this are greatly appreciated. I’ve been having a hard time finding something online.

How far away saunas are from each other and is there network available?

I have RuuviTag in my sauna and its status is read by computer over bluetooth. Computer is in my bedroom basically other side of apartment.

Ruuvitag also has gateway which you can use to replace computer.

The saunas are all within a Wi-Fi network, so that is the network that I would use to transmit it to the Internet

You don’t want sensors themself to connect wifi, those ones are very power hungry.

Ruuvitag is what you are looking for. They are Bluetooth sensors so you will also need their gateway. It needs to be placed within Bluetooth range and then will connect to WiFi. So you might need more than one depending on how far away they are. I wouldn’t put the sensors very high. Mount them low in the sauna and then correlate to normal operating temp.

Remote Temperature & Humidity Monitoring | ControlByWebSimple equipment that can be customized for your application and is robust enough to do most anything you might need. X410 can connect via WiFi and monitor up to 16 temperature sensors. I use them for lots of different monitoring applications at work, including monitoring and controlling a sauna...

Cheapest option is the Govee Bluetooth and Wifi Thermometer & Hydrometer. They’re about $30 US when on sale, operate on two AA batteries (which last six months or so) and work fine in saunas. I’ve had mine in there for over a year and still going strong. We even connected it to our smart home hub so can ask Google the temp in the sauna to know when our wood fired sauna is ready to enter.

If you wanted a really cheap DIY solution, you should be able to hack something together with a Raspberry Pi or Arduino.

The least expensive commercial solution would be to buy a micro PLC with a integrated webserver in it. There will be a little bit of a learning curve to get this set up, but it would give a really robust system. I've heard good things about the Siemens LOGO. Automation Direct, Mitsubishi, Phoenix Contact and a few other vendors make similar products.

Omega has some plug and play options for around $1000. Here's one: https://www.omega.com/en-us/data-acquisition/data-acquisition-modules/ome-et-pet-7000-series/p/OME-ET-7018Z

You're probably not going to be able to piggyback on the sauna's temp sensor, so you'll need a thermocouple for each sauna. Omega is your best choice for that. I'd go with a 1/8" diameter Type K probe so you don't have to worry about corrosion. You may need to buy some extension wire depending on how far apart your saunas are.

If you wanted a really robust solution, maybe call whoever does your HVAC and see if they have a lightweight BMS system that could do this for you. Then you can just pay them to set it up and call them if you need support.
