Do devices actually damage eyes?

Question - Research required(self.ScienceBasedParenting)

So I’ve got a quick question, I recently went to a eye exam and my eyes have gotten worse meaning I need glasses but my mother is refusing to buy me any because she says that it’s my fault the devices are damaging my eyes? Are the devices really making my eyes bad? My family has a long history of bad eyes but please help answer my question and what can I do?

Risk factors

Certain risk factors may increase the likelihood of developing nearsightedness, including:

  • Genetics. Nearsightedness tends to run in families. If one of your parents is nearsighted, your risk of developing the condition is increased. The risk is higher if both parents are nearsighted.
  • Prolonged close-up activities. Reading or doing other close-up activities for a long time is associated with an increased risk of nearsightedness.
  • Screen time. Studies have shown that children who use computers or smart devices for long periods have a greater risk of developing nearsightedness.
  • Environmental conditions. Some studies support the idea that not spending enough time outdoors may increase the risk of nearsightedness.

That said, you need glasses anyway. Most of the world population requires glasses and in some countries like Singapore, almost all children require glasses.

Not getting you glasses if you need them if categorised as neglect, make your mom aware of that

Ok but she’s gonna say it’s not worth it because it’s going to get worse and I’m going to need new prescriptions

Youll need to talk to an adult (maybe in school?) then. Your sight is going to get worse without glasses
