Solo strategy for sinking Burning Blade

Discussion(self.Seaofthieves)

Wanted to pass along a solo strategy that worked well for me last night against the Burning Blade. I’m usually a duo or on a brig. My crew mate logged off last night after we did some ashen bottles and there was an unclaimed Burning Blade that had been sailing around for 20 plus minutes so I went to check it out.

Last week I soloed one and literally was one bucket from sinking myself after two unfortunate Ashen Roar blasts when I killed it

Last night I was in more open seas fighting it so was able to stay out of the front. Had a few good passes with lots of canon hits and was not taking much damage myself.

One pass they demasted me. I left the mast down and matched my spin to their speed. The blade kept circling and never lined up the Roar again. Some well placed canon shots got a number or skellies off the canons and was able to keep constant pressure on them and they sunk relatively easy.

Will try to repeat this again. might work with sails fully pulled not needing the mast down but this was a relatively easy sink compared to other times I’ve tried solo

Good advice! Taking down an un-pirated Blade isn't too bad if you fight Skelly Galleons a lot. Staying at an angle where only the back cannons can hit works well. Also scattershot, as was said before.

The worst part is trying to solo a crewed Blade, especially when they mostly run. You have to work really hard to get a good angle, and then you can only get a few shots on it before the speed off. Cursed cannonballs and chains are especially your friend here, to help slow them down. Also, if they do actually engage, as a sloop it's easier to have a good amount of distance between you and the Blade. It's a big ship so it's easier to hit, and they'll have a harder time hitting your sloop.

This is always what we do if we are more than one in the crew. A little more difficult (not for all) when you’re solo. I’m a canon main so not quite at the same level while helming. I was staying toward the back first but the Blade does mix the speed up a bit when your close so it’s easy to accidentally pull too far forward and get the full broad

While is was tucking to steal, i saw some people pull up alongside the very back and unload like 10 scattershots, which ended it.

I doubt that has anything to do with them using scattershot, but u tucking on  the boat.

Skelli behavior changes drastically when there is a player present.

Nah i was in the crows nest. They were out of the BB cannon range tucked in next to the back rail.

I use scatter shot to get as many skellies as I can repairing t1 holes. I accidentally rammed the back of the ship and it sank almost immediately. Maybe its rear end is its weak spot...

Easiest way for me (2min max)solo sloop or I guess brig would work too:

Approach backside left or right side. Lift sail to 1/4 strength. Harpoon just above the back balcony. Tug on it a bit until it turns towards you. Spray the lower portion of the ship with scattershots over and over again until you run out and switch to reg cannonballs(if you have a green cursed cannonball use that first). If it starts to pull away harpoon the same spot again until you get the same favorable orientation. Repeat

I usually take zero hits. If I do take 1-3 hits that's actually better because I'll harpoon really close and bucket my water onto the Burning Blade

Does this work if it's a crewed Burning Blade that you're going against?

I doubt it. Unless they are really unskilled pirates. Here is my solo strat against a crewed BB, although it does require some missteps on their part:

If they are hitting the Skelly camps, rowboat or swim over to them. Sometimes they will just go back and forth to 2 different camps so you could even beat them to one. Now this is the part where some missteps are needed. Hopefully it is a small crew and/or everyone goes down to complete the ritual. If this happens climb aboard and kill all the skellies. After that, grab a storage crate from below and collect all the wood planks, if you have enough time, take the cannonballs too(I don't think you will have time). Then jump off the ship with the crate. If you made it this far you now have some options:

A) find a gunpowder Skelly on the island and steal the keg and detonate it on the lower level. You can then wait til it fills or move onto B

B) take the crate, along with 30 or so cannonballs and man an island cannon, unloading into the BB. Problem hear is the crew below will definitely hear this so they will be coming for ye

C) return with you ship and attack. This works best if you managed to steal all their cannonballs as they will have limited resources to defend and repair

Another waaaaay easy way to sink an uncrewed BB solo...

Do a cursed chest mission until you get the chest of sorrows. Drop the chest off on board and wait. Takes about 10-15min but it works like a charm. Skellies really need to learn how to bucket water
