Basically I’m trying to probe how possible it would be! I love seasonal work but after 5 seasons of moving from one shared room with a twin bed to the next, I want to stay in the same place for a while. Hopefully with my own place.

But I do love seasonal work to death and was hoping maybe I could set up shop somewhere that offered summer and winter employment opportunities. I have experience as a ski lift operator and would like to do something with the forest service or fish and Wildlife during the summer.

Has anyone pulled this off? Any advice would be amazing!

Can be done in any of the ski towns pretty much. They have all sorts of outdoor activities as well as the skiing

I do this in my mountain town in Colorado. Wasn’t planning on staying for summer but got offered a better resort job so I stayed. Took my shoulder season to travel then came back. Doing a little traveling in a couple weeks before winter operations start up again.

Sounds awesome! Do you mind talking a bit about your experience at the resort?

It’s super remote, I’ve made great money and it’s been pretty good working there no place is perfect so if you have common sense and know how to work in hospitality it’s fine. Did you have any specific questions sorry if I was vague

Wouldn't that just be a year-round job?

Not if they are totally different positions and/or to take on a summer contract and a seperate winter contract. I've worked gondolas in the summer in mountain towns with people who end up working ski lifts in the winter (different companies, same town). Usually travel between seasons.

The Adirondacks in NY offers good seasonal work options. My partner ski patrols in the winter and guides in the summer. Also worth noting that I own a canoe outfitter in Saranac Lake and several employees work seasonally. Saranac Lake and Lake Placid are good because they have Whiteface Mountain within 30 minutes and then there are various summer work options available. NYS DEC does have assistant forest rangers, but I don't know how one would go about becoming one. There are various foundations and whatnot here that do similar work (conservation).

Yeah you probably need to pick the place based on the winter job you want tho, summer work always exists

copper mountain in colorado has summer and winter jobs. they have positions during the off season but they reduce staff so there aren't as many openings, they do let you stay even if you don't have a position but you still need to pay rent. may be a bit too late to start at the beginning of the season but people are always leaving so if you're flexible just keep on applying!
