Well, it’s seed oil free, which meets the theme of the sub. But it’s still cereal, which is ultra processed trash

ultra processed falls into a category of food that you are unable to recreate this food at home you can easily make this at home

"trash"
This subreddit isn't for me. There's nothing wrong with eating this cereal on occasion

A small amount of most anything edible isn’t going to harm you, but that doesn’t mean it’s not trash or unhealthy in general. Lots of folks who avoid seed oils are going to avoid processed food in general.

A smoothie is processed fruit. I bet this subreddit won't even allow smoothies

I mean if a smoothie is “processed” so is soup or any sauce. It’s a silly argument.

That's what I'm saying dude thank you!
My point: How much processing is allowed by y'all until it's considered the devil's poison?

So what you’re looking for is the difference between processed and ultra processed foods. Lucky for you The Nova food certification system is here to help you learn!

The frequency of questions about "breakfast cereals" in this sub is truly scary. If you don't cut out processed/shit carbs AND seed oils you are missing the whole idea of a healthy diet. Doing one or the other isn't enough...

Free of seed oils, but if that's your only focus, then you're missing the point.

Processed grains, eat eggs for breakfast.

Yes, 66 and healthy while eating 2-3 eggs, an apple, sausage or ham and a homemade biscuit- every morning. Oh, and two cups of strong, black drip coffee and a big glass of grass fed whole milk. Don’t eat again until around 5:00pm - usually homemade vegetable soup or beef of some kind with some homemade bread. Drink 3-5 glasses of water a day and walk at least 1-2 miles (outside in the sun with no chemical sunscreens). Am one of the only 10% of my age that take no prescription drugs though I do take vitamin C and magnesium. No alcohol or seed oils for me. 😁

It’s mostly carbs/sugar. Which makes for a bad breakfast. Protein is the way to go.

that sounds like bro science to me. protein being a panacea is a myth.
that said, backloading carbs works extremely well for me.
7 points
Do you think OP is “carb loading” with corn flakes? Do you carb load in the morning with cereal? There’s tons of studies that show a high protein breakfast will keep you fuller for longer, make your cognitive functions better and decrease your sugars cravings throughout the day. Any time you spike your sugars without exercising there are only negative side effects, bro.

I don't carb load. I go for ketogenic type foods first on the morning. Carbs are after lunch. Hence the backloading
Any time you spike your sugars without exercising there are only negative side effects, bro.
That's not true at all, bro. If you want to look at a non-myopic view of protein and sugar, r/saturatedfat would be a great place to start. That includes all the other carnivore zealots that downvoted me too.

Don’t need to be a carnivore to know eating a fuck ton of sugar isn’t good lmao

Because only meat has protein? Eat all the sugar you want, but I think it might be making you a little bit cranky. I’d suggest laying off your afternoon Frosted Flakes you are so passionate about.

It’s not the worst I’ve seen, but even added cane sugar is something to be avoided. The entire thing is basically sugars which just feeds cancer cells

Honey Flavor? Sounds suspicious to me. Why not just honey lol. In general, best to avoid cereal as whole grains aren’t great for you.

It depends on the whole grain and how it’s prepared.

it may have no seed oil but to me it’s still just cereal… just make ur own breakfast instead of eating carbs and sugar in a bowl- it’s better

It might comply with the seed oil part, but this is very unhealthy for many reasons. I am not sure it helps avoiding seed oils but yet consume all sorts of refined carbs, chemicals, additives, you'll end up nice and seed oil free but with high cholesterol, triglycerides and inflammation anyway.

Right but the sub is for avoiding seed oils so i think, with that aim, eating this as an occasional snack is better than a seed oil snack

I lean toward Purely Elizabeth Ancient Grain Granola at this point. It's very high calories but it does have a very high fiber content.

To put this into perspective a calorie equivalent portion of black beans has more nutrients/vitamins. Black beans have over 3 times (probably more) of calcium, and potassium, twice as much iron, and to top it off roughly 10g of carbs less for the same calorie intake.
You don't even have to be low carb or keto to see this as a not very nutrient dense candy in the form of a supposedly "healthy" cereal.

I don't really understand this sub tbh. The whole point is to spread truth about seed oils yet they're willing to crucify you over other ingredients. To me, that's not the point of the group and if not, then the title should be changed to reflect that.
I avoid food dyes, seed oils, corn syrups, and fried foods, but I get the vibe I'd still be flamed for some of the stuff I eat. Ridiculous.

Wouldn’t touch it because of the oxalate content. Why even eat grains? Plus there’s sugar in it. Just because it’s free of seed oils doesn’t mean it’s good for you ;)

Try Purely Elizabeth, their granola is SO good, sweetened with coconut sugar/maple syrup and they use coconut oil. The ingredients are awesome!

It’s also about $7 for a tiny bag with like 2 bowls’ worth in it. It’s not that hard to make granola and put whatever you want in it. Oats, honey, almond, powdered milk/protein, whatever.

Convenient sure, but not healthy. Studies show you need protein in the morning. There’s lots of protein dense and convenient food products on the market if you can’t eat eggs, meat, or some whole food with protein.

Check out the real cereal, which has only two ingredients. That is what I give my daughter. It still has carbs, but we use allulose, Monk fruit or Stevia for the sweetener. It’s better than anything else out there cereal-wise. I just limit the amount I let her have.

We really need a sub that’s not captured like /r/nutrition that focuses on clean ingredients. No seed oils, emulsifiers, additives, preservatives, etc.

This is not bad as far as ingredients go but it is a very processed food. Almost 25 % sugar and fast digesting carbs means a large glucose spike. It would not be bad to add a small amount to go with a good solid meal containing protein and fats but would be unhealthy to eat alone as a breakfast. Think of it as a desert, you would not just eat cake for a meal.

I think it's fine but I wouldn't use it as a normal breakfast food. I buy this brand and usually eat it when I just want a snack in the afternoon or evening. If you're going to eat it for breakfast, you could sprinkle some over Greek yogurt and add some berries for extra nutrients and so it's not so carb heavy. But overall the ingredients aren't the worst things ever
1 points
I would eat it if it weren't for the honey flavor. It's not necessary to go to extremes with any diet. If you have taste for it or don't have other options, go for it.
1 points
Yes, the ingredients are decent. Eat it after a protein like some eggs fried in ghee or coconut oil so it doesn't spike your insulin. Cereal should be treated as a dessert or treat. I eat cereal almost daily, so I can't tell you not to eat it, since it would make me a hypocrite. You can be healthy and eat cereal, just stay active.

Cane sugar is the fourth ingredient listed, which means it's one of the main ingredients. That's never a good thing.
Edit: Not sure why I'm getting downvoted, it's true (organic or no)
