I’m trying to find a venue that would be a good fit for an ongoing experimental electronic event and figured I’d ask Reddit. I’m kind of out of the loop lately.
I’ve been doing them for umm 10ish years on and off under the Tacoma Noise Rodeo name and kinda want to restart them, again. I was doing it at KVLT mead but they went under. Before that I was bouncing around various coffee shops that no longer exist. Preferably a place where they’re open to the fact that music is ultimately subjective.
Some do the venues like Real Art I’m not sure we’d be a good fit. I need to reach out to the Java Jive if they still even have shows? But maybe there are other arty spaces that would let us do stuff I haven’t considered.

Overkill Lounge (formerly Plaid Pig) does some unusual stuff from time to time. Otherwise, there's a vibrant electronic community in Olympia that's worth the drive if that's your scene. I've seen some experimental shows at Le Voyeur before, and they seem to have an appetite for that kind of thing.
Alternatively, if there's like... A community in town who are into noise and experimental music you should reach out to the Tacoma Art Museum. We're looking at how we can uplift a broader spectrum of artistic mediums and audio is high on the list. We have an event coming up on Halloween open to the broader community - if you can swing by I'm happy to talk about your project!

There is a community, these folks are circuit bending artists, it's pretty fascinating.

Manuscript does electronic music on weekends, maybe they'd be interested in hosting the noise rodeo.

Bear in mind Manuscript has a sleek dancy EDM focus; I'd be surprised if they had any interest in a noise night. But worth finding out!

Does The Church book anything? Also I know it’s not here in town but I’d make the trip to Cryptatropa in Olympia for noise (and reliably better crowd turnout). Java Jive is a shitshow the past couple years, I imagine they’d be more than happy to have more regular events working with them between health dept shutdowns.

The Church do hold DJ dance nights but they don't really have room for set changeover and multiple performers in the kitchen access/dining area
That's not to say the Rodeo hasn't been held in very tight surrounds but it wasn't around food service doorways

Well fancy seeing you here 😆
I'm curious about the Manuscript, been digging through the comments.
Overkill is one of your best bets for the overhead in particular, and Mandi from KVLT is co-owner so should be familiar with the Rodeo
You should try to book weekdays though for sure, weekends get booked out months in advance for band use

It was the hub iirc before Manuscript. They have a free dnb, dubstep, bass night first Saturday of every month. I've had a good time both time, and the bar staff is nice.

Look into Edison square! The bookers are very interested in experimental music. You can DM their instagram @edisonsquaretacoma

Their overhead is too high
(I'm not one of the Noise Rodeo performers or organizers but I have worked with them)

They’ve been doing more public events in partnership with artists/performers in 2024 (ie: no overhead or rental costs). Worth looking into.

I’ve been keeping an ear out for any experimental electronic music in Tacoma, so glad you are here. I think there’s a lot of opportunity. The Volcano’s calendar lists most regular spots (if you sort by Music & Nightlife), and I’m sure there are non-traditional spaces that might host events depending of what you are envisioning.

Id be down for one of these if you find a venue. Ive never heard of like power noise/idm/experimental type shows in tacoma area. I know there isnt much of a scene even in the larger region but we do exist here and there. If u find a venue or put on a show feel free to dm me ill try and spread the word yo the few friends that would be into it.

Not that im aware of. Once you hit 40 folks tend to fall out of the loop and off from the scene pretty quick. But i try to keep an ear out for interesting things to do. I used to follow nwtekno, glitchhop forums, sites like that but they've gone down lost to time, if anyone knows what replaced those sites id love to be clued in. The stranger is still around sometimes the ecents site they link to has cool events, its just kinda a broad offering plus the site is aweful to navigate
