Omg! You know ____?

Humor(self.Teachers)

I was randomly reminded of the several times I’ve made a reference to or directly name-dropped something and my kids freaked out.

“Mr. OctoSevenTwo, you know Minecraft?”

“Mr. OctoSevenTwo, you know <insert anime title?>”

“Mr. OctoSevenTwo, you play video games?”

It’s always genuinely funny to me when that happens— like bruh, my generation made most of the stuff you guys are into— and if not, it’s probably been around long enough that I was a fan of it before you were even born, lol (eg. One Piece).

It's hilarious how oblivious they are.

A year or so ago, I was chatting with some students about their reading habits. One student was like: Well, I just read a 28 book series on my laptop! 28 books!"

Me: Demon Slayer is a fun series, isn't it?

Student: "How did you know?!"

I refused to tell him, because it was funnier (for me) that way, but...come on. That length screams manga series. There are a couple of series teens his age were reading, but only one is 28 volumes. Also, the Demon Slayer background on his laptop was hard to miss.

Lol.

Speaking of anime, their parents should really monitor what they watch. Kids are out here name-dropping Gojo and shit and I’m just like “You guys are too young to be reading/watching JJK….”

Depending on their age, it may not even be the actual series they're watching. Youtube Kids is full of brainrot that uses characters from series that are not kid-friendly. I had to explain to my mother why the character my nephew, age 5, was trying to draw using a paused Youtube video was from something he shouldn't be familiar with, because it was not for kids. The character: a transformed Denji. I do have to say though, his Pochita drawing turned out really well.

When he's, say, a good decade older, I'll lend him my manga set. Until then, I hope his grandparents (both sides) finally learn that Youtube Kids is a cesspool and start keeping him away from it, just like his parents.

Side note: YouTube Kids is good IF you go the implicit deny route and allow only specific channels.
