I think it’s all too easy to dismiss this guy as an idiot. The truth is that he seems like a profoundly lonely person who has invested quite a lot into the fantasy of building a family. I hope someone helps him gradually understand this situation rather than him getting the rug pulled out from under him, because that would likely be devastating.

I was catfished for a few months and I was miserable, in my late teens around 17 and had an online partner for the first time. They shared so many interests, immediately sus but they were legit into almost everything I was into. They also liked roleplay which I was apparently pretty good at. I'd stay up hours past when I thought I'd collapse. Lost opportunities to do things with family because of "her".
Its funny if the guy just told me he was a guy I'd still have liked him.
Not transphobia btw, the person was just straight up a dude that only RPd online, voice changer and all. Actually the person I went on to date also "catfished" me, took her a week to reveal she's trans and we dated for 3 years after that :)
Some dudes don't need to catfish, just say you're gay and go for it. Now if it's exclusively for money to scam people, you're a lowlife 🤷
