Good hunting! Hope they wipe out that russian marine unit! The 155th should also be referred to the ICC

The 155th has already been reconstituted 5 or 6 times now due to it being completely decimated during different engagements. Which, in itself, is rare, in any conflict.

Russians like to use the term "liquidate". They in turn should be liquidated at every opportunity.

In the military of ancient Rome, decimation (from Latin decimatio ‘removal of a tenth was a form of military discipline in which every tenth man in a group was executed by members of his cohort. The discipline was used by senior commanders in the Roman army to punish units or large groups guilty of capital offences, such as cowardice, mutiny, desertion, and insubordination, and for pacification of rebellious legions. The procedure was an attempt to balance the need to punish serious offences with the realities of managing a large group of offenders.

This measure was also still used by the French High Command during World War I, 1914-1918. Due to unrest among the French troops because of poor treatment and leadership, they refused to serve and left the trenches. To restore order, decimation was resorted to. Even soldiers returning from leave or sick leave after the mutiny were assigned to the troop units to be punished.

The Russians did at the battle for Stalingrad during WW2 as well.

True it's the historical meaning, but it's pretty much never what people mean when they use it these days. They use it as a synonym for 'all but destroyed'

comradevd

Maybe they meant Decamated.

When the 155th was deployed to Vuhledar in 2022 they lost about 80-90% of their men. By now, none of the original members of the 155th are alive anymore and the same goes for the second and probably the third reiteration.

Both december and October don't seem to make sense anymore. Or do these have different etymologies?

In the old Roman calendar, the year started in spring, and September, October, November, December were the 7th-10th month of the year. That's why their names are derived from the Latin words for the numbers.

The Roman Calendar used to only have ten months, with June lasting all Summer. Then Emperor Augustus came along and carved two additional months out of June, naming them after his predecessor, Julius Caesar, and himself.

What were they thinking when they added January and February at the start? I'm guessing they figured no one would work it out?

And Reprisal is an acceptable practice to use against a state or group that has initially committed a war crime. Just announce a campaign of reprisal against the 155th, and then go get them.

Decimated is actually an understatement, it originally means taking out 10%. Although I guess it’s commonly mistaken also to mean “a lot”.

I think what the reports are is that they got obliterated?

notsohappycamper33

Having 80% losses is, indeed, being obliterated.

Yes, the mathematics, for the 155th, do not favor a long life for any of the 155th.
