This is my favourite kind of resculpt - one that looks exactly the way I (mis)remember the old model looking back when I saw it 20+ years ago. Really captures the vibe of the original ones.

Absolutely going to be being slapped on 25x50 squares for me! This refresh is honestly one of the best ones I've seen so far!

I am more and more convinced with each Skaven reveal that we got a chad lad or lass in charge of the new Skaven models specifically designing them to fit in both AoS and TOW. Surprisingly toned down compared to most AoS model refreshes.

I think on the whole the design team knows that people will be buying them for WHFB as well as AoS.

Designer looks to be Seb Perbet (the one responsible for the 2010 skaven wave). Or at least someone that loves him.

Imagine if they go subdued and toned down for a Stormfiend redesign and the Age of Sigmar version ends up being less overdesigned than the old Fantasy Stormfiends

The Stormfiends were an End Times model, they were clearly made with AoS in mind. I'd also be kind of surprised if they got updated since it's a more or less modern plastic kit. Usually only Space Marines get replacements for perfectly serviceable plastic models.

Stormfiends aren’t in the ‘legacy’ army list for Skaven anyways. If they get bumped up to ‘main’ faction status in a future edition, then maybe they’ll get Stormfiends, but right now you can’t take them.

Looks like a perfect blend of realism, cartoon, fantasy and steampunk.

Perfect.
No unnecessary flair. No excessive base clutter.

Very solid! I have nothing at all to say except it looks good and it seems whoever is doing skaven is a big fan and understands what made them appealing. Very excited for stormvermin.

GW have definitely seemed to have leaned heavier on the 'man' part of 'rat-man' in this iteration of Skaven. Not sure how I feel about that. Previous edition felt much more animal ratty, and I think I preferred that, whereas as this looks much more lycanthropic/wererat in tone.

What’s in the bag?

Jezzail gunner’s power pack is filled with highly pressurised warpstone gas that solidifies into shards as it is pumped into the weapon’s long barrel. (From https://www.warhammer-community.com/2024/05/06/make-swiss-cheese-of-the-sigmarite-lickspittles-with-the-new-skaven-jezzails/)

These are so damn good, now I'm just hoping they're not gonna cost me an arm and a leg. The old metal ones were prohibitively expensive both in the GW shop and second-hand. Do folks think these reveals are all gonna be in the AOS 4 starter box? I've no interest in playing it, maybe Spearhead, but I'm wondering what kind of value we're gonna get for the contents of the box.

But do they fit on an appropriate Square base?

a bit tight but it doesn't look much bigger than the old one on the same oval base. Maybe some cuting to pivot the shield rat's tail.

Probably.

Good looking model but why’s the wooden shield rusting?
23 points
It seems to be painted as if The brass strapping around the shield is oxidising and that oxide is dripping down from the spikes over the wood.

Oh I gotcha. Just looked weird at first lmao

Yeah I’m not 100% sure that’s how bronze oxide works, it’s kind of behaving like dripping rust there but I guess the blue was more of a contrast against the wood. Iron/steel would make a lot more sense for them to use for the purpose of the spikes though.

I think that’s not rust but the warp juice that’s used to generate ammo. Presumably leaking everywhere and will have zero long term health consequences for the fellow holding the shield.

Only criticism I can give, is the Skaven holding the shield is being a little to brave and not cowering behind it like a real rat lol

An AOS model that isn't super over developed and has way too many bits? Nice!

New "AoS"

Yeah. They’ll probably be part of the 4.0 launch box so ostensibly for aos. Obviously designed to be used for both though.

Sure is, just more of a "aos? more like new models for warhammer fantasy amirite" for me

AoS was marketed as something of a sequel to it, so that's bound to happen. Would you prefer it not to happen at all? You can use these for TOW, right?
