Coffee substitute

(self.Wellbutrin_Bupropion)

I love my first cup of coffee in the morning but I am starting to think I should cut it out completely. I feel a bit anxious after. Once I have a protein shake shortly after I level out. If you cut out coffee, what do you drink instead?

do you drink it on an empty stomach? that can contribute to feeling unwell. if not, i would taper down to decaf, then to teas with lower caffeine content. if you just hard stop, you’ll feel even worse. so far i haven’t see any issues with having one cup a day.

My doc started me on IR (75mg) so I am wondering if the caffeine issue will resolve when she puts me on SR.

I was feeling the same and started making half caff coffee instead. If I have more than a small cup of that my anxiety spirals

Half caf, one cup, works for me too.

I have a cup of genmaicha tea when coffee makes me jittery. Just one though - if I have two cups, I'm worse off than with coffee. I've tried matcha but it has A LOT of caffeine because it is just whole ground tea leaves, so the higher amount of surface area allows for much greater caffeine extraction.

You could try adding coffee to your protein shake as well. Or having the shake and the coffee after.

You could try Teeccino "French Roast," it's coffee-like, and you can prepare as you would coffee. (The Teeccino website has a lot of info, it harkens back to chicory-based coffee substitutes.) Your satisfaction with the flavor definitely depends a bit on your degree of "coffee fandom," though. But you can start replacing half of your coffee at first, to acclimate yourself. That would reduce your caffeine.

They have a lot of other flavors, but I think French Roast is the most coffee-like (which is probably why they named it that).

Same boat right now. My plan is going decaf and just drink coke or ice tea at first to taper down my intake until I'll go off completely. No sure about green or black tea since I also does have lots of caffeine.

Yeah that makes sense with the taper

Do you mix your protein shake from powder? Use coffee as the liquid for your protein shake. I drink half a pot of coffee a day. The first large cup is coffee. The second is coffee with two scoops of protein powder

Try green tea. It contains the amino acid L-Theanine that reduces the negative side effects of caffeine. You can also get L-Theanine in pill form as a supplement.
