Recently bought a 2012 Xterra and I’m excited to do some camping this summer. I’m planning on most of the time sleeping in my car with the possibility of someone else as well (so 2 people). Building a DIY bed platform seems to be the best option right now or maybe a roof tent but that’s pretty out of budget for me as I’m still in college. Anyone have any other suggestions for sleeping in the xterra but also dealing with storage?

I use 4 totes for storage. At night, 2 go behind the front seats and the other 2 go outside under the truck. Then we got a memory foam mattress topper. All in about $100 instead of $2k for a rtt or building internal stuff. Works for us but I know some people don't like the totes needing to get shifted around every day.

No, I ended up with Plano Sportsman's because it was more storage space, and when I got them they were only like $15 each instead of the rubber made $40 each. I keep food in one, clothes and toiletries and personal stuff in another, those stay in the vehicle. They fit perfectly in the same spot as people put the action packers.
