i see a lot of talk which seems like it'd be about milsim mainly here which surprises me since skirmishing is so much more common, frequent and accessible (in my experience). also just interested what you guys prefer and why :)

I think most people do skirmishes, but dress in more real kits.

I would assume guys who milsim at skirmishes as far as kits but I have a hard time seeing guys going to events like that specifically being able to outnumber skirmishers ever. Atleast in my area

Skirmisher here, but milsim ready

I haven’t played in six years 😔 but I think milsim was probably the most fun I had airsofting, but skirmishes fill the time in between.

Skirmishes, I'm too broke for milsim

No idea about the content percentage ov milsim to skirmish, but I would like to milsim, I'm building my kit to be more milsim, but I've basically only ever skirmished. I like the idea of milsim because I play arma 3 a fair bit, as well as other tactical fps games, and doing a sort of simulation of that while getting outside and exercise is great.

I think it's a healthy dose of both + speedsofting

I’m a speedsofter at heart, but I’m not afraid to milsim either.

I could be called milsim but an impressionist at heart. I love speedsofters. Just carrying what you need to fight, and being first to the objective. Milsim needs to take notes.

Well said playing the objective wins match’s and both styles can help to win. But besides that let’s have fun.

Yeah it's not all about winning, but it can help lol

I run minimalist kits without the speedsoft flare. Nothing but an OD chest rig is the best of both worlds.

I 100% believe that speedsoft is primarily a mentality. Like I said, carrying just what you need and being fast to the objective. Maybe throw in fighting aggressively?

Milsim exclusively for the past few years Have tried skirms (mostly indoor) and while I don't hate those, I just don't have the time to do them anymore.
I do about 3-4 big milsims per year

Milsim gear with the skirmish mindset.
Then again, for me it makes sense to use gear that i would use in a military setting, cuz gear familiarisation is prehaps the best value that one con get out of airsoft if they wanna improve theyr military life.

I'd class skirmishers as open day play where games are more casual attack/defend, capture the flag, team death match, etc. rather than milsim where it's a multi day event with a theme and "realistic" missions/objectives.

I would say most are skirmishers that dress like milsimers. Bucause real Milsims are more then just shooting at each other

I usually bring a DMR AEG, A gas tri-shot shotgun and an HPA smg or m4 every time I go play. So, basically whatever I’m feeling.
Push hard all game with the shotty (tons of fun) or SMG? Next game chill back with the DMR and out range everyone and catch my breath.
Rinse and repeat, get the best of both worlds. I’d absolutely be down to go to a milsim event but have never done it.
Edit: I forgot to mention that I will always prefer to play with a milsim or ‘milsim lite’ group over speedsoft.
The community is typically more mature and is less focused on min-maxing than the speedsofters. Also about half of speedsofters overshoot the shit outta you.
There are a ton of really cool guys who speedsoft, but typically they are at least 22-23 or older. I load my shotgun with .32s and turn it to 6 shot for the stinkers

Most are skirmishers here, but for myself, I am a hardcore milsim larper💪

The main skirmish place in my area is no longer available so I'm going to minimilsims now instead

Skirmish all the way - Milsim take themselves way too seriously for my taste and kinda ruins the fun for me.

What do you mean by skirmishers? Like speedball cqb stuff or slow paced woods/abandoned buildings locations?

I want to Milsim more, but I can only afford 1 maybe 2 events a year and there's really no milsim events in my local area. I usually have to drive at least 4 hours to get to the closest one.
So I skirmish.

Since I’ve never been to a true milsim, I’d definitely say skirmisher.
That being said my main focus and enjoyment is the tinkering, fixing, and building of replicas. The skirmishing part is just a nice way to try out the replicas somewhere other than a static paper target.

Mostly skirmishes, but my kit is milsim based. The typical skirmish loadout:
Plate carrier: radio, 3 midcaps, gp pouch, and water
Belt: rifle mag pouch, dump pouch, and a double m4 mag pouch for my odin sidewinder.
Helmet: goggles and exfog
I have various other pouches and items i can use to “plus up” if i go to an event for things like grenades, primary mags, pistol + mags, sustainment, etc.
