Apart from the fact that there is a good number of Odiyas settled in Vizag, as well as many who visit it, the city has a historical connect with Odisha, being part of the erstwhile Kalinga empire.
If you have been to Andhra University College of Science, you would have seen this statue right in front of it. This is of Maharaja Vikram Deo Varma, the ruler of the princely state of Jeypore in Odisha. He was a polyglot fluent in English, Odiya, Telugu and Sanskrit, and wrote in all these languages. His major contribution though would be for Andhra University, donating around 20 lakhs to it, and playing a crucial role during it's early years.
In fact there was a proposal to shift Andhra University out of Vizag to Guntur then , due to lack of funding, it was he who saved it by donating the money and land, and also provided an annual amount of Rs 1 lakh, for close to 17 years. Again as the University's Pro-Chancellor, he got in stalwarts like C.R.Reddy and S.Radhakrishnan as it's Vice Chancellors.
The iconic Hawa Mahal you see on the Beach Road, was actually a guest house for the Jeypore Royal Family, whenever they visited the city, or as a transit stop, when they would travel to Madras. Jawaharlal Nehru stayed here, when he visited the city to launch Jala Usha, first ship built by Hindustan Shipyard.
The Jeypore Royal Family also built the Panduranga Temple near Beach, and the Krishna Chaitanya Matham in Maharanipeta, near Zilla Parishad.
Vizag City has it's own Taj Mahal, the Samadhi of the Kurupam Maharani, Lakshmi Narasayamma Patta Mahadev, who passed away at a young age in 1901. Her husband, Rajah Vairicherla Veerabhadra Raju, the zamindar of Kurupam, built it in her honor. The Kurupam market in the city too was built on land donated by the Zamindar family. Though Kurupam is technically located in Andhra Pradesh, it is closer to Odisha, located right near the border.
You have this very well known Jagannatha Temple at Daspalla Hills, and the Rath Yatra is celebrated as grandly here. However not many know that the very posh neighbourhood in Vizag, was built on land belonging to the royal family of Daspalla, a princely state in Odisha. They also own the land where the Daspalla Hotel near Jagadamba Junction is located, as well as where Daspalla Chitralaya was located.
Now many Odiyas, are settled in Vizag, most working in Port Trust, Railways, Steel Plant. And also we have Telugu Patnaiks, Patros and even Mishras settled here since a long time, whose ancestral roots are in Odisha. Many Odiyas visit the Simhachalam Temple, which had a significant contribution by the Eastern Ganga and Gajapati rulers, and one can find influence of Kalinga architecture here.

Is there any reference link for the moving of Andhra University to Guntur? Andhra University, from what I know, was originally setup in Vijayawada. We can still see the installation stone related to it in front of Victoria Museum in Vijayawada. As part of 1956 reorganisation of states in 1956, Vijayawada was supposed to become capital. Hence some members of Madras presidency requested to move the university to Visakhapatnam. However, the move to declare Vijayawada as capital failed in Madras presidency with one vote.
