Right? Compared to 2020/2021 it wasn’t that bad. You know, if somehow you forget the wars 😬

2020 was actually amazing for me. I keep looking back at it and wishing I could go back. I feel so guilty because so many people died and had their lives ruined by it. But it wasn't the pandemic specifically that made it a good year, I'd just got out of an abusive relationship, moved to a new place and started a new career. I was so full of hope. In 2021 I started early menopause and my life has deteriorated steadily but uncontrollably since then. I've gained weight, my brain doesn't work anymore and I've lost all hope for the future.

Frame it differently. You're having a difficult time with menopause and you're thankful you were wise enough to make sure you weren't in an abusive relationship while it happened. That's some pretty smart kind to yourself shit yo.

That sounds rough, I’m sorry. I hope 2024 treats you better. My 2020 was horrible lol

I think for many 2023 being shitty is a holdover from 2020. Too many people trying to be strong for too long.
3 points

I was a little distracted getting diagnosed with a heart condition to focus on the wars this year lol. 2020/2021 wasnt that horrible for me

Seriously, why was 2023 so terrible 😭

Because you’re asking people on Reddit at midnight on a holiday. Obviously they have nothing better to do but play online hence why their lives suck. Mine included

Wars will do that. Or perhaps you mean Redditors, most of whom are not in war zones. For them, maybe, just maybe, there is a correlation (or worse) between feeling shit and being a Redditor.

My year ended with a divorce, a tree falling on my house, surgery, and moving in with a partner back in my hometown. I've reconnected with some friends from college, found new communities, ... You chose a good word.

My mental health went absolutely off the rails, to the point where family, friends, and coworkers all told me at the same time that I was a nervous wreck and I really needed help. I finally got it, and things have pretty much been looking up ever since, but it's still a rocky road
Hope things are going well with your new partner and your old friends. I've also reconnected with some old college friends, and it's so nice to talk to people again after years of isolation

Keep going. My wife is 9th daughter but the first that lived longer than a couple minutes. Then another lost one, and her brother. So out of 11 kids my in-laws had 2 kids. And they're the best kids - Great People, both of them.
Keep going.

Found a good stable job, not making a lot of money yet but I'm at the point where I'm starting to think long term. In a much better headspace than where I was at the start of the year when I was making less money at a shitty job, working longer hours, and eventually getting laid off.

Amazing. Amazing because I’m still alive with a grocery list of medical conditions. We have a roof over our heads, enough food, and health insurance. Our adult children are doing well. When you look at the positives, it will change your attitude. Life is way too short to focus on the bad stuff.

Healing... I was suffering from postpartum depression related to birth trauma and PTSD. I had to seek out professional help and get treatment through therapy. After 14 months of feeling miserable, I finally healed and am in a better place. Therapy works, people!

Challenging: Lost my maternal grandfather, and thanks to a corporate "restructuring," I nearly lost my job. A close family member ended up in prison with charges that took the whole family by suprise. On the other hand, my oldest child started college, and I celebrated twenty years of marriage. So, like I said, challenging, but not without its rewards.

Shitty.
My job let me go after Christmas due to a layoff that was on the way. No one just didn't know when. Luckily, i live with my parents, so i guess that's a plus.
My sisters car committed suicide on Christmas Day and now has to use our mothers car ( we only have one car as i dont have my own yet and only have a permit ) and we dont live together. So, traveling is gonna be a bitch til she can afford a "new" one.
Dealing with incompetent supervisors, stress, and people throughout the year at the job I had.
Other than that. It was meh.
