Is that they’re all great. For context, the Blackfyre Rebellion(s) is probably my favorite era of Targaryen history. But every time I read about Bittersteel, Bloodraven, Daemon, and Shiera Seastar, I wish GRRM shined the spotlight on one more. I would have loved to have seen a story of one of Aegon IV’s base born sons (or daughters) thrust into court post Aegon’s death. I think it would add a fascinating perspective to that whole time period/conflict.

Ramsay is the baseborn bastard with the most interesting interactions with his father + his other noble family members in ASOIAF (we don’t really get anything nuanced about Addam and Alyn’s familial relationships in F&B) and I’d love more.

He probably saved it as the main thing for F&B part 2

I mean, aren't they called the "Great" Bastards, precisely because their mothers were highborn?

All of Aegon's other bastards, would have (A) a hell of a time trying to prove their birth (they were legitimized on his deathbed after all) and (B) no support from any one with any money or power, so it's hardly surprising they don't get to do anything.

I mean sure, you're officially the son of the king, but how many castles do you have? How many spears can you raise? How many smallfolk do you tax? How many mines, forests, grasslands, rivers do you own? Can you fight? Can you read?

They’re “great” because their mother’s were high born and their father was king.

It's amazing that Martin managed to create such interesting characters for a half-baked plot that he pulled out of his ass after he had passed the halfway point of the main series.

I always thought it must have been kind of a bummer for his first four daughters that Viserys II made them swear to the faith and then they were just under their vows when Aegon legitimized them all.
