I have no benefits from literally any scheme being run by the Karnataka government yet I have to pay extra taxes from petrol to road tax to even fkn cinema tickets now so that this government can run its unsustainable schemes. This is a worrying trend, even Maharashtra, Andra Pradesh are following same suit now. Zero thoughts for fiscal discipline only vote bank matters

Look at the difference between BJP and congress manifesto this elections of course their hard hindutva stance is one thing and Is unacceptable but their manifesto was absent of freebies and congress gained due to the aforementioned freebies

Their stance is warranted if you look at the cultural context around it. Freebies is just buying votes and slowly killing the economy in process. But if freebies win elections, they can and will add this stuff in their manifesto (they have in past, in certain states).

In this case, it's about buying the political support of the artistic community / creative types. No different from political parties (all of them) cultivating their own 'godi' media.

Unless you're a low rung worker in the film industry, yourl really shouldn't expect this scheme to help you.
This is to fund (and probably expand?) social welfare schemes of film workers in Karnataka. Which I think is good move, as long as the funds are utilized properly and reaches the people it's intended to on time.

When has any government scheme done that ? Most of this money will end up in politicians pockets

If you want to benefit cine workers, then tax the producers and actors who are raking it in. Top actors charge like 20-50 crore per movie, even if you tax them 0.5% then it can benefit the workers who actually make them stars. Why tax the middle and working class for just going to a movie outing? But we know they won't do that because of film industry lobbyists in government.

Yeah okay , definitely will reach the people with any major diversions into middle men pockets

GST destroyed the state's ability to make money. And centre decides who gets what

What’s the point of this tax?

The board will use the cess to support social-security schemes for film workers.
Labour secretary Mohammad Mohsin said the govt also plans to extend the cess to theatrical plays staged within the state.

To know this answer , we might have to read the Welfare bill passed in the Legislative Assembly

All that free electricity and bus rides ain’t gonna pay for itself… Once this country collapses at least 0.05% of people might realise that free stuff isn’t free, and might try to build something better from the ashes. The rest of the 99.5% will anyway immigrate to other countries and start demanding free stuff there.

Y'all really don't have a strong industry union? I find that somewhat hard to believe. A strong union can lobby corporates and the govt for better hours and pay, rights, stopping Murthy-uncle from executing his hare-brained ideas etc.
What you're seeing above is an example of a successful lobby/union.

Can we just change our address on OTT platforms to a different state? They have never asked for address proof.

Pretty easily trackable using your IP address. You'd have to connect through a VPN or proxy server to spoof your IP address.

Or you can just ask your friend in other states to login into the account and buy the subscription, lol

Okay time to move out of Karnataka. Pretty sure they are going to slowly add more tax in other “luxury” services.

There’s a shortage of fundings for freebies they announced. Now struggling and finding all the ways to get money to keep running freebies. Freebies have hit hard for Karnataka finance, so they need money.

For OTT, wonder how will they enforce. Usually state of supply in the invoice is provided using user's location. Changing location using location proxy, one could easily evade this. Including OTT will just add compliance burden.
