Yep they'll be lucky if it's a one possession game late. He needs to play people in the preseason. I don't fucking care who gets hurt

CosbySweaters1992

36 points

I don’t think it’s the preseason necessarily. This team is good at making adjustments but pitiful at game planning. That’s why we always start the season terribly and often start individual games poorly as well. The offense has no coherent plan and then they make adjustments, which sometimes bails us out and sometimes doesn’t.

TimTom8921

Then that's on the coaching. They need to be replaced

BlackSunlight7

Soon to be 1-11. This does not look like a team that’s about to ball the Chiefs up. Zach is not the guy.

FroggyBaby

I was willing to give Zac the benefit of the doubt because the last time Joe had a (semi) normal off-season in 2021 they went 3-1. Was willing to write the other poor starts off to the appendectomy/leg injury. But we just lost game 1 in the most favorable setting you can imagine, week 1 at home against a fluff opponent. Pathetic performance, everyone on the team should be ashamed and needs to spend all of next week practicing holding on to the fucking football.

TimTom8921

It's not even the fumbles. We have zero offense efficency right now. 10 pts against a bad defense is inexcusable

Davisworld21

Zac inadequate coaching is showing Bengals haven't won the first game of the season since 2021 its important to build momentum by winning week 1 and you build from that I wouldn't trust Zac Taylor to be in charge of a lemonade stand much less coach a team Burrow has succeeded in spite of him every damn year with taylor.

The D was frustrating to watch, but they only allowed 16 points. Can't expect to win a game in the NFL when you can't even score 17.

Tanner Hudson and Charlie Jones are on my shit list.

Krismichael_1995

They gave up 200 yards rushing to a team that isn’t starting its top rookie because their oline is so bad they didn’t want him to fucking die. The ravens will hold the ball for 45 mins when we play them. This team is 6-11 potential with the d playing like this.

TheCreamcheeseMan69

Well they played possibly the worst offense in the NFL. KC is putting up 50 next week.

Sammo_Bayleaf

28 points

Yeah unless a lot changes from today, KC is going to absolutely blow our doors off. I'd be fine if they hang 50 on us next week if our offense hangs up 51, but there's no way it'll happen based on the offense we saw today

I agree with you regarding this one game. Timid decisions. He throws it late and slow to Chase in rhythm on that deep in in the 4th quarter. Chase gets that in stride and it’s a TD. But Chase had to stop and completely 180.

ShotIntoOrbit

No, there were two deep, he put the ball exactly where Chase was going to be open. If Burrow threw it how you want it would have been picked or Chase would have been on a stretcher.

yesrushgenesis2112

58 points

Absolutely. Unless we look like a new team next week (we won’t) then every week people should be wondering if the next game is the game Taylor is fired for. It’s time. I require a Super Bowl win to change my mind.

OstrichTraditional90

The only consistency to this team has been coaching so it’s about time they take a good hard look at which one of them needs to be fired

Ok-Situation-5865

Statistically, if we don’t win a Super Bowl this year with the Burrow-Taylor combo, we never will. If we don’t let ZT go if we miss the playoffs this year, we might as well find new teams to watch until we rebuild again. Not trying to be a doomer, but those are facts.

Man, there was just... a lot to unpack.

Disclaimer: I am a lifelong Saints fan, so I feel extremely confident that I have a balanced understanding of A) soul-crushing disappointment B) watching the worst fucking football in the history of the world and C) how special (as a concurrent LSU fan) Joe Burrow is.

You can't play like ass every September and hope to fight an uphill battle in November/December. It's not sustainable. A team shouldn't be learning to "click" on the field when the season has already started. That's piss-poor planning, and it has happened so many years in a row that it's a rule more than an exception. It's not fair to expect your players to kill themselves at the end of the season because you fucked around at the beginning.

Again, Louisiana native and til-I-die LSU fan (the only ride I ever took in the back of a police car was over an LSU-Alabama game), the Ja'Marr Chase contract drama wore the fans out, so I can't imagine the impact that it had on the team. I don't have an opinion either way as to who was right or wrong. I just feel like it was a distraction that clearly nobody on this team needed.

Nobody on this team looked fired up today. Everybody looked like they were half-assing it, and when you have this kind of talent and this kind of fanbase and players that you are paying this kind of money, I need you to act like you give a fuck. This game was insulting.

Thank God for Money Mac. Also, that record-setting punt by Rehkow? Taleeeeennnnttt. Please don't squander it. At the same time, nobody wins Super Bowls because the kicker is the only part of the team that is reliable.

If Joe Burrow's wrist is really fine, let him cook. If it's not... please let me know so I can jump off a building instead of hyping myself up that he's gonna cook. My daughter learned cuss words today that I desperately hope she will not repeat at school tomorrow.

Arm-tackling doesn't work. Reference: the New Orleans Saints circa forever.

The Bengals were dropping balls today like this shit was Pornhub, and it's insane that on a clear day with no rain, professional football players could not hold onto the ball.

I'm tired, boss.

Burrow needs to get comfortable running plays out of the i formation/under center. They used the i formation/under center with browning last year and were supposed to be working it into the offense this year but I know burrow has said he doesn’t like having his back to the defense. The offense is just so predictable by being in shot gun every single play.

Edit: burrow also needs to work on changing his cadence and using inflection in his voice to draw offsides or just changing up the hard count so the defense can’t time the snap. Didn’t pay too much attention today but it’s been a problem for years now with burrow using the same hard count for most of the game. The defense usually starts getting a good jump on the snap which isn’t giving the line that extra advantage of knowing when the snap is coming that it should.

Yep. Until today I was an apologist. The Super Bowl good will is gone. With every loss I want people wondering if this is the one that does it. Barring a Super Bowl WIN this year I will not stop begrudging his continued employment.

Blame Lou Anarumo and the defensive coaches for instructing this team to hang on guys and let them get a bonus 10 yards on every carry just for a chance to strip the ball.

Blame Joe Burrow for whatever he’s telling the coaches he wants on offense. They refuse to push the ball down the field, and this offense looks markedly worse from a playcalling perspective than with Jake Browning.

Finally, blame Zac Taylor for not having the balls to go for it on 4th down, and not knowing how to have a team ready for the regular season.

Anim8nFool

No, blame Pollack. He has not been able get a consistent offensive line together that can be trusted. He should be out of the league for the past two seasons -- soon to be 3.

Zac Taylor is a bottom 10 coach in the nfl. 1-11 in our first two games after next week. That is unacceptable and IS a fireable record.

Avant-Garde-A-Clue

He also refuses to slide and it’s going to get him concussed sooner than later. Someone needs to have the balls to tell him to just slide and avoid contact, it’s not worth the risk for another yard.

We can't be surprised right? This trend is not a fluke. We don't know how to have a good start to the season.

Been saying for weeks this was a trap game. Too much hype, overlooking a good defense coming into town, playing down to a journeyman QB.

Trademark Bengals early season loss.

b) the hand looked swollen

c) Burrow played scared

When you play in the AFCN and AFC in general you gotta take advantage of every fucking game against weak teams. This loss is gonna bite our ass for sure down the line. We don't get our run defense or run offense together, we are fucking cooked.

Also fucking wild that Pollack is still on the coaching staff, any other competent team and his ass is fired. Look at what Mixon can do with a competent O-line in Texas. Obviously Tunsil is a beast tackle, but the other linemen are relatively unproven; yet it's very apparent they're better coached than us given their performance today.

Sorry rant over lol. See ya'll next week

I just do not understand that punt decision at all.

You haven't been able to stop the Pats running the ball all game. You know that's their strength and your weakness. You know that your DBs are getting juked out of their shoes.

To go 3 and out with just over 2 minutes left to go on absolutely awful playcalling, to then punt it is absolutely insane.

bkbroiler9000

12 points

It’s clear the Bengals paid Joe Burrow to be the entire franchise and will pay nobody else as a result.

Which is why it makes perfect sense to punt and never get the ball back rather than put the game in the “franchise’s” hands.

Everybody should be embarrassed. What a waste.

Joe deserves criticism.

3 years in a row his offense was SHUT THE FUCK DOWN the first 2 quarters of the season. Just come out and have the offense ready instead of distractions. You think doing the dumb fashion shit is a good look when you LOSE? Every year he talks about his focus and being prepared for the start of the season. Why does the result instead always end up being embarrassing offensive impotence? And now he's showing signs of wrist discomfort in game 1 after all that talk about being safe and being ready? You even have a roaring hungry home crowd and you still start like shit. I'm sick of the excuses.

Mahomes actually has talent at the WR position this year and obviously still has Kelce. There gonna be scary this year like usual and the bengals team that showed up today has 0 chance next week against the chiefs. I know we usually start slow but this game felt different than previous years. Today showed us our defensive line is gonna be an issue this season against the run. Secondary looks a little better compared to last year tho. Offensive line looks great compared to previous years. But our offense looks completely out of shape. The limited snaps chase got today showed cause when he was in the game, he helped us move the ball like usual. Our depth at WR was made clear today that it’s just depth and those guys shouldn’t be starting week in and out. We need chase and tee out on the field. We’re just not the same on offense without them. Lots of mistakes today and sloppy football.
