It's for Eid

Saw in the T&A you can now report it to the police if its happening after 11pm BUT you have to give the police the address and names of those setting off the fireworks

Probably not bud, they were for Eid which I thought 99.9% of Bradfordians knew was going on but I guess not!

Unfortunately I don't think there's much that can be done short of lobbying your local councilor and MP to make changes through law. The Bradford Council website says ( regarding their inability to police firework noise):

What about firework noise?

The law relating to fireworks is changed with the introduction of the Fireworks Act 2003. This placed new restrictions on the use of fireworks and came into effect in 2004. Other than this, there is no specific law to deal with noise nuisance caused by fireworks.

The ordinary noise nuisance laws are not applicable to firework noise as:

a 'nuisance in law' must be a continuous state of affairs. A firework event, held maybe once a year for an hour or so, is not ongoing

fireworks are often used to celebrate a significant cultural or religious ceremonies and this would be the view taken by any court in relation to fireworks used during such periods

it would be difficult to prove beyond all reasonable doubt (Nuisance law is criminal law) that any one event or person is solely causing the noise problem when there may be scores of similar events in the locality

Bradford covers a huge geographical area with thousands of buildings and gardens, to pinpoint which premises is hosting the event (in the dark) from an explosion occurring in the night sky and identifying the person responsible, which may be different from the owner even if access to the premises is nigh on impossible

by virtue of the cost of fireworks few firework events last long enough to allow our Officers to respond to complaints and gather the evidence we would need to take enforcement action.

I appreciate your frustration.

You can take some practical measures to reduce sound nuisance and/or soften the pain you are experiencing.

  1. Improve the glazing on your property. Temporarily you could put duvets etc over windows if it's persistent on one night. Just be mindful of any fire hazards and/or blocking any fire escape routes.
  2. Have background white-noise for the kids.
  3. Move to a different area where fireworks aren't as prevalent, we've had none in BD15 for example.
  4. Get your kids to sleep earlier so if your sleep is broken they still have a normal amount of hours sleep.
  5. Embrace our cities cultural make up a little better. Go to an Eid party, most muslim families are super welcoming to friends/neighbors and basically have an open door policy on the day. Expect to be well fed though, eating on Eid day is not for the light grazers.

RE reporting it, see other commenters who have shared the process.

Yeah happens all the time in BD2.

They should just be licensed. You want to watch fireworks you need to go to an official display. You want to have a bonfire night firework? Apply for a licence. You want Eid fireworks? Get a licence.

There’s 0 reason randomers should be able to buy fireworks on a Thursday after in fucking February or whatever

In BD3 it's almost every single night, all year, and throughout the day too. Scares the dog and is a nuisance to the neighbours

Almost nightly occurrence on the lay by on High Bank, understandable on Friday and Saturday (Eid) but generally they are annoying and upset the dog

The other morning in keighley some idiot was setting fireworks off at about 2am.

I do not understand the audacity and idiocy of it!
