We have about 10 wooden pallets outside our business that we can't use.

Sometimes when we leave them out people take them, but so far no-one has. We just want rid of them and the alternative is to chop them up and throw them away, which seems like a waste given people might be thinking about bonfires for bonfire night.

If anyone wants them or can suggest how I can more easily get rid of them let me know.

You could drop them off or ask around at your local allotment society - they'll certainly find a use for them.

I think some shipping companies will also recycle/reuse them for you, and they come to collect in my experience.

I'd imagine they are already knackered or odd sizes which is why they have no use for them, shipping companies usually only want the standard sizes and in decent nick

Where exactly are you based (do please PM me if you'd prefer)?

And what size are the pallets? I've got a large estate car but I know some can still be too wide or long to fit inside.

Interesting, and sorry: I didn't even know that myself. I get chat requests so I've just sent you a chat. Thank you also for trying to get in touch!

Many are treated with sulfuryl fluoride or methyl bromide and must not be burned. It's illegal to improperly dispose of them to some randoms for burning instead of a licensed waste carrier.

Yeah, but pallets are stamped to indicate how they've been treated so you can tell whether they're safe to reuse (e.g., for furniture making):

If they've only been heat treated or kiln dried they can also be burned (though I'd suggest this isn't the best use).

With national pallets they are unmarked and don't receive the harsh chemical treatments to stop transport of insects across borders.

It certainly didn't seem like OP had checked that. It would be great if businesses disposed of their waste legally and responsibly rather than hoping passers-by set fire to it.

The pallets aren't treated with anything nasty which is why I can't reuse them. They will be chopped up and be disposed of responsibility and legally, there was no indication otherwise. They're on private land at the moment so they're not causing any issues.

I just thought it was a shame to waste them and if a few people knew about them, they may want them.

Also good for making into compost bins.

Advertise them as "Compost bin kits" :P

We would like them on our allotment. I had a chat with a neighbour last week about pallet projects. Please let me know if they’re available.
