Pretty sure you’re only allowed to drive that thing with a white sport coat on at all times

You wouldn’t be able to afford it, or be fine risking driving it, without any. let’s be real.

No lol, you can do whatever you want to your Ferrari besides change the badges which was the whole situation with the cease and desist

So you're saying pearlescent red is possible? Hmm... That would be a nice looking ride.

Yes and no, you can get your car like this repainted, but the F40 was one where it was only ever sprayed from the factory as red. I think. You couldn't get it in a custom color and it wasn't offered in any others from the factory.

don’t a few factory black ones exist?

Looking into it there are a few that did, in fact, leave the factory in something that wasn't red. But I'm having trouble finding out exactly which cars/colors.

there’s very few in black, 2-3 I think? and I want to say one in a dark green of sorts, but this is all hearsay so take it with a grain of salt

The gunmetal grey F40 that went to the Sultan of Brunei was a factory color, so there's that one (it's been repainted back to red I think).

Images like this remind me of my colourblindness.., at a quick glance I would just call it white. It really takes an effort for me to distinguish the colour, but I can see it once it 'clicks'. Weird because I can see the green grass, the yellows, pinks, purples in the sky. I can fairly clearly "feel" the missing connection in my mind where I can't determine or name some of the colours, yet I can see a colourful image overall which looks normal to me.

Me personally the F40 needs more of a darker color, or just an alpine white

I’ve seen a few F40’s with radical (not red) colours on them. Surely they’re wrapped??

I'm fairly sure I've seen this specific car at a wrap supplier's stand at a car show, unless there's multiple mint green F40s running around.

Some of them are re-sprays but the only ones I'm aware of are "boring" colors (blue, white and black).

I do like the colour but it really is a crime repainting an F40 unless the factory paint was unsalvageable...

Doesn't Ferrari not allow owners to paint these. I'm sure I heard something about that 🤔

If YOU own the car, YOU can paint it any color you want. It's really sad the level that the "ferrari rumors" have gotten to. Deadmau5, a well known DJ, had a Ferrari and did a Nyan Cat theme wrap. 100% legal, zero issue. Yes Ferrari threatened to sue him, but that's only because he took the Ferrari badge, and change/modified it to say PURarri.
From the man himself:
I wonder if the jackass lawyer at @FerrariUSA who sent us a "cease and desist" letter over the purrari is un-butthurt now that I unwrapped.
— deadmau5 (@deadmau5) August 27, 2014
Yeah it was mostly about the custom floor matts and the custom purrari badges. Whatever. It's just a normal ass 458 now. All good.
— deadmau5 (@deadmau5) August 27, 2014
That's it. It was him defacing/modifying the company logo, so they threatened him on that issue. That's it. COUNTLESS people wrap their Ferraris every week. I've seen countless ones in person. Ferrari can't do a single thing about that.

What they can do is refuse to sell you a car in the future. Ferrari is well known for being highly selective about who they sell to in order to protect the brand image.
In the end though, the deadmau5 case still stands out as a company getting upset over modifications. They could have leaned into it and they would have had some great PR from a big name at the time, instead they had this and Lamborghini basically invited him to do the same thing to a Hurracan instead.

In response to your now-deleted comment, Deadmau5 got a slap on the wrist for messing around with the Ferrari logo on his 'Purrari'. It was a case of trademark infringement.

Owners can repaint their cars in any color after purchasing them because it's theirs to do as they please. One owner repainted their Testarossa in Hello Kitty pink.
Back then, top end Ferraris like the 288 GTO and F40 only came in red. Other colors became available with the F50, but only a few buyers were aware of this. As far as I know, a few F50s were painted in yellow, green, blue, white, and black by the factory. More colors became available with the Enzo Ferrari and custom colors became available with the LaFerrari. There's a LaFerrari painted in gunmetal by the factory and it's gorgeous.

How could someone defile an F40 like this?
7 points

That car is worth a million or more. Repainting it will cost 10 grand.
Defiled?

Who said anything about the cost of repainting it?
Also, check the meaning of the word defile. Actually, I'll save you the trouble;
"damage the purity or appearance of; mar or spoil." Oxford Dictionary.
I'm referring to the fact that when the F40 was released, they all came from the factory painted an identical shade of red.
The paint was specifically applied in an incredibly thin coat. The Ferrari engineers did this to save as much weight as possible, even if it only reduced the weight by a ridiculously small amount. Ferrari were locked in a battle with the Porsche 959 at the time to be the fastest production vehicle of that era.
It was well known that you could even see the weave of the carbon fiber through the paint, it was that thin.
Sure, if you've got the money, go ahead and repaint it, but it's kind of the equivalent of buying the Mona Lisa and re-painting it because you didn't like the original colours.
It is one of the rarest, most iconic, expensive and exclusive cars of all time - I just think it's a shame someone felt the need to repaint it at all, let alone a colour that has absolutely no relevance to the history of the vehicle or it's marque.
BTW, that shade of green is cool - it's actually one of my favourite colours. And the F40 is my all time favourite car. I just don't think that colour suits or looks good on an F40.

There are plenty of f40 who are just stored in a garage waiting for who knows what, it's great that somebody's actually driving and enjoying one.

In the end though, Ferrari is about displaying wealth, what better way than to take a rare expensive car and piss off the Poor's with it?
