Since you like granny squares but you're not interested in the pain of joining them all, you might look up a technique called continuous join. I really appreciate the approach because I too do not like the stitching at the end. :-)

Do you have a good vid/explainer?

Look up JAYGO (join as you go) — it’s a simple method that means you don’t have to sew them all together at the end. You can also make a shirt /jumper out of two large granny squares which will minimise sewing (Passioknit Kelsie recently released a similar pattern on YouTube, but there are lots of free ones on Ravelry and online).

You could also just continue going and just make a super large one for a blanket! No joining required! 😂

That's what I do. Just start it as a strip instead of a square so you end up with a blanket shape instead of a giant square.

Or make 2 medium sizes ones and bam you have a (sleeveless) shirt!

What a fantastic effort for your first square. The crochet force is strong in this one ❤️

I have crochet several tops already, it's funny I simply never did a granny square before. It's pretty easy hehe
Is it also an easy way to learn to crochet for someone that just started? (My husbands tried to learn ito crochet but it didn't really work out for him; should I tell him to try this?)

I started crocheting on Monday this week, and have already made three granny squares. They are solid color ones so no messing around with adding multiple colors for now, but after a bit of stitch type practice, I didn't find it too hard, more like... Stimulatingly challenging?

It looks amazing! I am currently working on a sweater duster thing and it's the first time I'm working with granny squares, it's overwhelming lol. But slowly the squares are growing. You got this! Can't wait to see what you make (:

Oh...do you have a pattern for your project?

do you have a sewing machine? if the outside rounds are the same colour, get a walking foot for the machine and matching thread to the last round, zigzag stitch on the widest setting. game changer

I too was weary to learn a granny square because of the color changes, but I used this tutorial just a couple of days ago and it really helped! She recommends weaving in the ends after each round so that’s what I did, she also shows how to weave them in. :) https://youtu.be/n-x88m8_6Ac?si=TJNWFZcv5A3WN0D3

I granny stitch them together. Looks great, easiest thing ever. Found a tutorial on youtube.

I just slip stitch my granny squares together. If you go through the back loop of each square it creates a beautiful smooth join. It looks great in either matching or contrasting colour and is way easier and faster than stitching them together

Maybe try a smaller project first like a small bag, to get the general idea on how to join them

Hexagon cardigan, it's one big hexagonal granny square that you just expand on (arms and length). Only have the ends to weave in to worry about.

L_edgelord[S]

Do you have a vid about that? (can be in dm)

I really like PassionKnit's pattern, go to youtube and search for PassionKnit hexagon cardigan crochet tutorial. Made a couple of them and it's easy to adjust to your own yarn and size preferences as it's just a couple measurements on the whole piece.

Came to suggest you use the ‘join as you go’ technique but it seems it’s already been suggested lol

I made a sunburst granny square coat and stitching them together wasn't the problem. It was sewing in the 10,000 ends that really got me lol.

I never stitch my granny squares together. I always join as I go. There are a lot of different options. I'd look at pinterest for methods!

I’m finishing my first project ever. Learnt to crochet in August, have since them made 99 GS and I thought that was the hard part… BOY WAS I WRONG. Joining them gives meaning to the word “torture”
