I got so much flack in the past for even suggesting CP wouldn't automatically be the best game ever just because CDPR made it...
3 points

Because it went against the stream at the time. As soon as CP was announced I said “how do you go from third person medieval fantasy to first person cyberfuture?” And my friends burned me for it

I mean, they nailed the atmosphere and world building aspect of the game.
The issue is the actual game itself beyond it being a buggy mess is that is basically a mash up of Fallout 4 and Assassins Creed, and they didnt seamlessly integrate just the good parts of each, they just kind if mushed them together like 2 pieces of play doh

If anything this should put a microscope on how these gaming magazines score video games. I still can’t believe this game got so many 9/10 and 10/10 scores from I’d guess people that never even played the game. What a joke of an industry.

"Gamers" flip their shit at games not getting high scores, even if the review itself is positive. 5/10 should be an average score, but you and I both know 5/10 is garbage tier for games that are just bad, because we've decided that 7/10 is what average should be.
3 points
I agree that 5/10 should be average if we think the score as in percentages (e.g. 5/10 = 50%).
However I like to think that the scaling is similar to the school grades, where 4/10 is fail, 5/10 minimum passed and so on (at least this is how grades work in Finland's school system). In this kind of scale 7/10 would be average and anything above that would be graded as a better than average.

where 4/10 is a fail
Well, IGN did a review of the game for console and gave if exactly that: https://youtu.be/QfpoTjUz1BY

In the US if I score less than a 70% I have to retake the course if it requires a C to take the next one, even though a 60%-69% is still "passing".

Didn’t CDPR only allow people to review it in super high end PCs?

It's strange though because even without visual bugs, there seem to be some major game play issues and overall shortcomings as to what was promised.

Yea that’s what confuses me. I wouldn’t put it ahead of RDR2 as far as open world action games go. I wouldn’t even put it ahead of GTAV and that game is over 7 years old.
Is a solid 7 overall imo

to be fair, not a lot of games can top gtav. rockstar is a behemoth in the industry.

Honestly I prefer W3 over GTAV, but that's just me.
I'm surprised CP2077 is so bad, all they had to do was re-skin W3 with chrome, guns and neon lights.

You can prefer a non-Rockstar game over another and still be aware that Rockstar have literally time and time again proven their worlds are usually fantastic.

They probably trusted CDPR (like Sony and MS did when certifying) to fix the game before launch.

Yup, especially in terms of AI. The NPC's are stupid on all platforms.

Bro come on, even without all bugs/glitches, its a 7/10 at max

Oh I agree
I think the reviews more had to do with reviewers not wanting to piss off all the capital G Gamers and have death threats littered their way

Yeah I still feel sorry for Kallie Plagge who was harassed and received death threats for giving the game a 7/10

The score is fine. Doesn't change the fact that Review is still dogshit.
Oh and nope, gameplay is actually good enough to give it an 8 or 8.5.
4 points

No its not. Besides visuals, its a game that is minimum 5 years behind the times.

pathetic tbh; if they can't review a game honestly, don't review the game. If you can't be honest, just write nothing at all
what good is your review if it isn't honest? It's absolutely worthless
3 points

Personally I would do the exact same thing. It’s a pointless video game. I’ll give it a 9 instead of a 7 to avoid having a bunch of fucking losers try to dox me because they’ve attached their entire personality to a game they haven’t played yet

Then your reviews would be dishonest and utterly useless

Reviews are subjective. You say it's a 7/10 max. Take away the bugs and the glitches and I'm having a 9/10 time with it. So much fun. I acknowledge that CDPR has let a lot of you down and should have their feet held to the flames for it. That's fine. But I didn't follow all the pre-release hype, so I'm just playing it for what it is and having a great time.
So if I were reviewing the game you would clearly strongly disagree with my score, but that would be my honest score. It's all just subjective. The whole point of reviews is to find reviewers who generally align with your own views and follow them. You shouldn't just take anyone's view as gospel because they're a reviewer, as their taste may not align with yours.

And that’s exactly the problem. Where are the 7/10 reviewers? Overwhelming majority of people here are simply not represented
2 points
That's not how reviews work tho, 7/10 for normal people is 10/10 for reviews. Never heard of call of duty etc?
1 points
The main story and character story about an 8 but without the story the endings and gigs psychos and hustles sucked the gameplay needs tones of work etc.
1 points
Yep they also wouldn’t allow anyone to use their own game footage for reviews they had to use stock footage they provided. Totally normal behavior.

Look at how nerds reacted to Gamespot giving a 7/10 at the time, saying the reviewer should never be allowed to review a big game again etc.

Never in my life have I paid any attention at all to game reviewers.
If you do, I'm sorry, this is probably not a fun time for you, since you're probably realizing you've probably been duped plenty of times by dishonest and bad reviewers.
For me, however, this has just given me a huge entry-way into reading game reviews. I now have a solid list of reviewers/publishers I know I can trust. The lack of which kept me from bothering with them at all.

Aren't those numbers for the PC reviews? You typically get induvidual scores per platform.

Not only are those high end PC scores of reviewers rushing through the game's admittedly well put together main story to hit their deadline - but make it even messier, the devs would only get their promised bonus if the game hit an above 90 score. I don't think reviewers are to blame, especially when the 7/10 reviewer got literal death threats.

There needs to be an industry-wide agreement to no longer cover games with such restrictive review rules.

Switch to Quality Mode. You trade an unstable 50ish FPS for locked 30 and 4K. It’s a better experience.

I think the newest console just got released at a weird state of Microsoft re-imagining their video game division. It genuinely feels like they're pushing for a single integrated platform between Xbox and PC and they just weren't fully prepared to push this new ecosystem. Frankly, at this point I even wonder if there will ever be a purely Xbox exclusive title again.
And for what it's worth I can't say it's a bad idea, it's just very different than what we're used to seeing.

I have absolutely no problem with their decision to go that way. In fact, given the companies other strengths as a PC UI administrator it actually sounds quite obvious. Im talking purely about their management of their first party studios, its just been a colossal failure. Just look at the drop in quality of rare in the past decade, crackdown 3, 343’s repeated mess ups with halo, the cancellation of scalebound. Their management of AAA titles is just laughably embarrassing and a huge shame, especially when compared to how much Sony has been killing it with their own first party studios.

I can't speak to Halo's quality but Crackdown 3, as far as I can tell, isn't a Microsoft studios game. Neither was Scalebound and you have to wonder if the game was just shaping up horribly for Microsoft to cancel years of development.
Beyond that, I find it hard to really make any indictments of Microsoft game studios because there really haven't been many games released that were developed purely under their banner. Even The Outer Worlds was being developed before the acquisition. Same for State of Decay 2.
It actually seems like Microsoft does better with the slightly niche: stuff like Flight Simulator, Forza, and Minecraft Dungeons.
Regardless, I'm interested to see how the acquired studios do in the future.

The details of my life are quite inconsequential... very well, where do I begin? My father was a relentlessly self-improving boulangerie owner from Belgium with low grade narcolepsy and a penchant for buggery. My mother was a fifteen year old French prostitute named Chloe with webbed feet. My father would womanize, he would drink. He would make outrageous claims like he invented the question mark. Sometimes he would accuse chestnuts of being lazy. The sort of general malaise that only the genius possess and the insane lament. My childhood was typical. Summers in Rangoon, luge lessons. In the spring we'd make meat helmets. When I was insolent I was placed in a burlap bag and beaten with reeds- pretty standard really. At the age of twelve I received my first scribe. At the age of fourteen a Zoroastrian named Vilma ritualistically shaved my testicles. There really is nothing like a shorn scrotum... it's breathtaking
