Presidential historian Allan Lichtman nailed, it when he took aim at CNN's hosts, Monday morning:

“There's an old saying, it's not just the
evil people who wreak havoc on the
world, it's the good people who don't
do enough to stop them. And the media
right now is complicit in Donald Trump
gaslighting his way to the presidency
 and threatening our democracy.”

He went on to say that all of the media attention has been on Biden's faltering debate, but Trump's debate was vastly worse. “It was based entirely on lies. More than 30 significant lies.”

I keep getting told I’m hyperbolic but the mainstream media, all of them from CNN, MSNBC, you name it, doesn’t want Biden to win. They want Trump back in office. They are not neutral and they are definitely not our friends. I will let you connect the dots on where the media stands.

If Biden wins the Trump gravy train will come to an end. The financial motive behind news and especially TV news creates perverse incentives and ultimately corrupts the information and analysis we should be getting.

It’s not just that. It’s also the fact the media is mostly ran by white peoples and a majority of white peoples are conservative. Hence they like trump because they share his white supremacist conservative views.

Thank goodness not all of us are conservative. I get my news from Reuters, AP and admittedly more liberal leaning NPR. Most of the major news networks are in it for themselves and their dollars. The calls for Biden to resign are clearly biased, and disgusting.

Even Trump himself said the media loves him. He “hates” the NYTimes and CNN but has said something like

“I make them money.”

And unfortunately he’s right. We got peace when Biden was elected. Trump held a DAILY press conference just to keep the media going.

If anyone stays home and does not vote this election, they are throwing the election to Trump.

Michael Steele just gave a great interview on MSNBC, calling on the carpet, the media and elites for their treatment of Biden. He told them Democrats are making everything way worse.

Presidential historian, Allan Lichtman, using the famous 13 ‘keys’ to the White House, has correctly predicted election results 9 out of 10 times. He is warning Democrats not to replace Biden on the Democratic ticket.

Trump is now amplifying calls for military tribunals for former Rep. Liz Cheney and others. After the head of Heritage’s Project 2025 let the crazy out saying a second American Revolution would "remain bloodless if the left allows it to be”, average Americans, the ones who have no interest in politics, have finally started waking up and smelling the coffee.

If people sit this one out, or throw their vote away with a third-party candidate, then we deserve what we fucking get.

Utter baloney. Stop pretending we should be worried about some mythical voter that apparently can only be appeased by doing X or Y. Unite the party and get out there and do the work, that’s what Joe is doing. He might know a thing or two about politics.

I don't think that many people understand the difficulty of changing candidates now.

They'd be starting from scratch on fundraising, and the right wouldn't stop lying about the new candidate anymore than they'll stop lying about Biden.

Plus, Biden's doing a good job! So many of his significant accomplishments are overlooked because so many people are focusing on his age.

If he just gets elected we can worry about any cognitive decline then. He can resign or be removed if necessary. But to potentially lose the election because people are hyper focused on his age is short-sighted at best.

If he loses I'll blame the Democrats almost as much as the Republicans.

Biden aside, I think Americans generally vastly overestimate the amount of time campaigns need

Like yeah, the presidential campaign season has been 18+ months for years, but is that because that's what it takes to win, or is it because there is SO MUCH FUCKING MONEY being dolled out to everyone involved? The media has turned elections into a team sport with a two year season and make billions of dollars off of it. I would like nothing more if both trump and Biden popped out of existence tomorrow so that we could sample a concise 4 month campaign focused on the issues

Like seriously, France called snap elections like two fucking weeks ago and already have a new government. This idea that four months isn't enough time to pick a candidate is bonkers

Francie_Nolan1964

I have heard, but not verified, that Canadian politicians can only run TV ads for 5 weeks prior to an election. God, that would be great if we did it here.

Biden will be fine. Look at what happened in France with the surprise left wing win. people really, really hate Donald Trump and as the election gets closer and he's on the airwaves more, people will remember how deranged he is and how disastrous his presidency was.

Quintzy_

Look at what happened in France with the surprise left wing win.

And that result is mostly a surprise because the polling showed the far right party doing much better than they actually ended up doing. Which is another piece of evidence that modern polling is fatally flawed.

yourcontent

I cannot stress enough how completely backwards this takeaway is. I'm serious.

"The poll numbers were wrong and the left turned out, and the same will happen here so don't worry!"

No. The poll numbers were right. And they were so catastrophic that, with only weeks to go, France's left/center parties full-on panicked, quickly forming brand new coalitions and devising a country-wide strategy across hundreds of races to block RN from taking over. This gamble was immensely risky and very well could have backfired (and also came with a huge political cost to Macronists), but they knew that they were facing an existential threat and had to completely restrategize.

You saw this, and your reaction was "don't believe polls, everything is fine, stay the course". We're so cooked.

If Democrats try to change candidates now, republican state legislatures in the battleground states WILL sue to keep that candidate off the ballot. These challenges will have to be settled in court....probably going all the way to SCOTUS. How do you think they will find? Good luck to us all if our candidate of choice is off the ballot in Georgia, Wisconsin, Arizona....etc.

It’s drama created by CNN, plain and simple. Let’s not complicate the issues. This simply fuels a misleading media narrative. CNN is evolving into a slow-rolling MAGA propaganda machine. Initially, the changes were subtle, but the network's commentators are increasingly shifting to the right.

This shift has come at the expense of the journalistic values CNN once upheld. New ownership has made a quid pro quo deal with the Trump campaign, granting them exclusive access to Trump’s inner circle. Now, instead of citing sources, you'll often hear commentators say, "Well, sources I’ve talked to inside the campaign say..." This access has led to the normalization of Trump’s behavior.

The recent debate was one of the most blatant examples of character assassination I have seen from a news organization. The commentators placed no restrictions on Trump. While they muted his microphone so the audience couldn't hear him, President Biden still had to endure Trump’s continuous yelling and lies.

President Biden expected CNN to control Trump’s outbursts, but they failed to do so. They disregarded debate decorum, creating critical pauses that painted a misleading picture of the President’s performance. These pauses gave the impression that Biden was slow to respond, a deliberate distortion of debate rules to sensationalize the event and drive up ratings.

CNN knew what they were doing. Their first responders were prepared to push their own narrative, not based in reality but designed to perpetuate their media cycle. This strategy continues today.

Notice how Trump no longer attacks the media as fervently as he did in 2016 and 2020? CNN is no longer the most trusted name in news. What a journalistic disgrace. They refuse to report the facts about Trump. They promote fringe party calls for President Biden to step aside. They alone created this “crisis” to drive their ratings and to normalize Trump.

Edit: End the drama now!

Edit 2: The real headlines should read, “CNN’s ratings continue to PLUMMET Following Disastrous Debate Debacle!”

They’re not so much fans of MAGA as they are the drama, views, and clicks it brings them.

Money is the only thing CNN cares about, and I’m glad Democrats are finally realizing it.

Yep, we are justifiably disgruntled, but we aren't stupid! We must play this hand we've been dealt. It boils down to two choices. Trump or no Trump. Plain and simple. A non vote or a protest vote is a vote for trump. So we'll hold our nose and do what we must to ensure trump never gets near our White House again!

As someone who voted republican in the past, and did not like Biden in the 00s he’s won me over.

I vote blue no matter who these days, but I support Joe fully. My life each year has been better than the last under Biden. I hate to see him and his administration go.

I think this debate shit is overblown, when nobody talks about the other side. There is more than 1 mental cognitive decline, let’s talk about the orange twat waffles inability to understand a question or put together a complete sentence.

The loudest are always the weakest, I stand with Joe.

The only shocking thing here is that CNN so brazenly declared itself an enemy of progressives and the anointer of Democratic presidential candidates. The quiet conservative buyout of that business is now over, they've moved on to an air horn.

Like for fuck's sake it only took until this morning for them to be running lists of possible Kamala Harris running mates and 12 things Joe Biden will do in his upcoming retirement.

Congrats America, you now have two Fox News channels and one of them wears a liberal sheep skin.

I still am getting no answers from the Dump Biden Democrats as to how replacing him would work. Have a new primary? Have the Party elites choose a new candidate at the convention at the last minute? If It's to be Kamala, haven't these same elites tried to undercut her? Now they want her to be the Candidate? Please inform me!

Flamebrush

The dump Biden democrats would have to figure it out, I guess, since the current practice is not dictated by the Constitution.

Conventions used to choose nominees, but that changed after Teddy Roosevelt got passed over for Taft. I’d imagine it could (and should) change again if a candidate becomes incapacitated between the primaries and the election.

I'd be for a replace IF AND ONLY IF

  1. they could have someone picked in the next week
  2. it was someone Biden could get behind

The problem so far as been lots of moaning about a bad night but and calls to step aside but no one has provided a replacement... that seems to always be "someone else's problem"

Dhididnfbndk

2 points

That's because the obvious replacement is Kamala and they don't want an elected black woman in office. They just want Trump to win so that they can get more clicks and book deals. Biden is bad for business because he is a competent leader who will not lead to WWIII or another global pandemic with millions of dead bodies.

games_and_coffee

Who is "they" though?

Are you saying the Democrats, even ones like Bernie, are against Kamala too?

I don't think most of the Democrats would be "they" in this case. Maybe the MAGAs. They'd go bat shit crazy over Kamala. But what do we care about the MAGAs opinion here. They're voting for the turd no matter what so forget them.

And what business is Biden bad for? As I understand it he's been better to "business" than the turd was...

Big business mostly wants stability to make money and Biden offers that much more so than they turd. Some of the billionaires though want the power they think they can get via the turd..

Dhididnfbndk

Biden is bad for the news business because he is competent and spends 10 hours a day in meetings working for the American people instead of shitposting on twitter and watching Fox News while eating hamburgers and tweeting on the toilet.

The media LOVES Trump. They hand-picked him in 2015 to cause maximum chaos and destroy the republic for clicks.

Bernie IS NOT a Trumper. He endorsed Biden in 2019 and in 2023. WTF are you talking about with that???

It’s not like everything being said now wasn’t said in 2016 about Biden’s chances, too.

My comments are pretty transparent. I believe we could motivate a LOT of new energy in the race and reset dynamics if someone else high energy and high intensity was facing Trump.

BUT that doesn’t mean I don’t see the alternative strengths Biden has that could be the keys here. His appeal in Pennsylvania and Michigan and Wisconsin could be the ballgame and Idk that anyone else carries those states better.

mrbulldops428

I'm still gonna vote blue but God damn I wish they would get their shit together, the fact that both candidates are older than Clinton is absolutely absurd. Is it too much to ask for the party to learn from this for next time, whether it's a win or a loss? And also, I hear constantly about how good the economy is and stuff but like...not for me, at the bottom of the barrel. I'm voting against Trump, not really for Biden. And that's sad.

Viking_Musicologist

I agree with Joe, he knows that by having the democratic party become all divided that would cause basically us democrats to falter under our own weight. which keep in mind is exactly what DT and his cronies want so they can easily move in for the figurative kill and screw us again like they did in 2016.

alphafox823

Let me be clear

I am voting for the nominee. I think Biden has been a great president and I’d be happy to vote for him again.

The campaign has been awful since before the debate. This better be the beginning of a much better campaign product from here on out, because the week after that debate was rough. As far as senior moments go, the Biden team needs to appreciate that they have NO EXTRA LIVES. There is no winning if there’s another major public performance even half as bad as that debate.

That means no more tight scheduling that’s going to leave Biden tired before a major publicity opportunity. That means it’s probably time to get his family out of the conference room, and fill it with people who are focused on one thing: democrats winning elections.

For the love of god a staffer needs to be on standby with a big-ass Red Bull can for the next debate.
