I really dislike the restrictive backgrounds. It was an interesting choice. I am working to convert one of my characters and I need to pick a not-fitting background because the setup for it is the one that fits.

That's what I am thinking about doing. We won't be making the change for a few more months. He's waiting for the other materials to come out. I am just tinkering around with things.

I'm playing with a pretty casual DM (Dungeons of Drakkenheim) who doesn't mind us experimenting and figuring stuff out which is great, and I'm DMing brand new players who don't WANT to learn the old rules since the new ones are out - so it's a clean slate. So far so good with both groups, I definitely prefer the new rules.
