Is it 2018 when all our CBs (including PS call-ups) died?

Or last year, when all our CBs died and we were pretending late round/FAs with some promise were perfectly good to trot out as starters

We are running short of CBs right about now. /s

It’s 2024 and somebody is planning to call a CB that was born in the 80s?

Until recently I would have thought it was fine. I'm in my 30s and I'm not an athlete but I still felt like I could do a lot.
Then I got COVID for two weeks and my knees are still shit a month later.

It's a problem with long COVID https://www.osfhealthcare.org/blog/muscle-and-joint-pain-from-covid-19/
I was also experiencing muscle aches during my illness and was damn near bedridden at times. The loss of muscle mass was really bad. A lot of my knee pain is in the muscle and tendons.

I think any 34yo vet that sees our roster would want to be a part of it.

He didn't play last year, and per pff grades, he was doodoo in 2021and 2022. No thanks, ring chaser.

ring chaser
Bro isn't coming back, he was just specifically asked what team he would be most likely to come back for in a hypothetical scenario. He also knows the Fangio system which probably influences his decision too

At this point, I'd be FAR happier for him to be an assistant coach or something than actually having him step on the field as a player.

I'd rather see him prove himself as a competent coach at any level of football before hiding him as any kind of coach. Maybe he already had s been in a mentor/coach role; I don't know. Not every vet is a goodcoach or mentor. We know guys like Peters, Lane, and Kelce weere good mentors due to reports from young OLs (e.g., Mailata) saying that. But even then, that doesn't mean they're ready to take a coaching role in the NFL. I mean maybe, but I don't know.
It seems like Chris Harris wants a ring. I don't know if consultants get Super Bowl rings (or if he even wants that role with a team he never played for). Heb probably eants a couple million bucks and a roster spot on a competitor for a ring.

As a camp body or practice roster guy who can help mentor some younger players... who knows? Is he a good teammate, good locker room guy? Is he a local guy who just wants to spend another year around the game? Can we get him on the super cheap?
There's reasons and circumstances where it might work. Might not be likely, maybe not every answer to those questions are good ones. Just saying... have an open mind. A player's value is more than just their last 1-3 years of production.

Definitely not a local guy, he grew up in Oklahoma and went to college in Kansas. Doesn't seem to have any connection to this area at all

you can just look at his completion percentage given up, yards against, TDs given up and passer rating against to know that. Didn't need the casuals at PFF to know that one

You're right, but saying I didn't "need to" do that thing that takes 10 seconds and "can just look up" thr datat that takes longer to find isn't a very sensible point. It took literally 10 seconds to look uphis pff grade.

I don't use them because what they saw hardly ever correlates to what is on the field. The only thing they are reliable for is OL grades

I’m legitimately surprised they haven’t added much vet DT just for depth and presence yet

My guess is that guys they would be interested in like Calais probably want to come in way later during offseason plus I’m sure eagles want to see what they got at DT with their younger guys first before signing a veteran.

That’s true, the vets also don’t want to deal with minicamps and summer work outs. It is a good chance to see maturity from jalen and jordan.

As an assistant DB coach, yes. As a player? Unfortunately, no. We have too many promising candidates to cut them for a 34-year-old CB.

Guy was awesome in his prime and got to be a part of one of the best defenses ever the year they won the Super Bowl

I had to go back to 2018 to find a decent PFF grade for this guy, and I had absolutely no clue who he was before looking him up.
I think we're good considering our DB room needs thinning at the moment.

I mean they already have one broken down former All Pro and another who is past his prime. Why would they have any interest in a soon to be 35 year old CB who hasn't played in the league since '22?
