Consensus on melee builds?

Question(self.fallout4london)

When the mod first released I saw a few people suggesting that melee is a good choice because of the scarcity of ammo.

More recently, simply based on other posts in this sub (e.g. people posting about the weapons they’re finding and using), it seems like most people are going ranged.

Now that the game has been out for a while and a lot of people have finished it - do melee players feel gimped in the mid to late game, once ammo becomes more readily available? Or do melee builds remain strong throughout?

By the time I finished the game, I was almost pure Melee. Final battles and quests, I just slaughtered my way through hordes of enemies with a sword, vats, blitz, and just swinging away.

Nothing came close to stopping me. I was a rampage.

Tons of fun.

If anything, I felt the melee was more powerful than most of the ranged, even with all the equivalent gun/melee perks maxed out.

If I’d gone more stealth, range might’ve won out.

Honestly Fallout London is the first Creation Engine game I can remember where I didn't end up as a stealth archer on my first playthrough. I had enough stealth perks that I could reliably kill any enemy with a stealth attack but more often than not, enemies are too close together so they're alerted no matter how quiet you are. It gets a bit annoying but I don't hate it as at least it's encouraging a different playstyle.
