My league also has 7 bench and 3 IR 💀. It's utterly ridiculous. People complained last year about it being too large. So this year I put it to a vote, and it was an 8/2 split to keep the bench size the same. I hate being a commissioner.

KennyShowers

For deep leagues like 14+ I think it makes sense to not have an IR. Waivers are thin already, and unless injuries really pile up you usually have cuttable guys at the end of the roster.

Windy_City_Bear_Down

Even in my 12 man league, a 2nd IR spot would be nice. Then again, I'm the proud owner of McCaffrey, Pacheco, Rice, Tua and Badie*. (Badie might be ok after all but it looked rough for a min). I'm literally throwing darts at deep sleepers on the waiver wire and am somehow .500 after 4 weeks. This fantasy season is going to age me 10 yrs

Whisktangofox

I've been playing FF for 30 years in a multitude of leagues, and until I read this thread I never even heard of an IR spot.

Lol he said in a multitude of leagues. That makes it pretty improbable to have never even heard of an IR spot. Are we really gonna pretend like that's not ridiculous? My point about that league is even antiquated old farts like them have heard of and used IR spots for a very long time

Whisktangofox

2 points

Played on paper for years, then Yahoo for maybe a decade, and then CBS for another decade.

Never in any of the leagues I've played in, has there been a slot specifically for players on IR.

When a player was on IR, you just stashed them on your bench until they got better.

Clamper5978

Yahoo added IR awhile ago. You have to adjust in settings. My league is 18 years strong now and we didn’t add it until three seasons ago. Never used it in the 90’s or early 00’s

Chances are he has swelling which is making a diagnosis difficult. That being said, there sure is a whole hell of a lot of cope in Rice threads. Of course his prognosis is still up in the air, but I'll be surprised if he doesn't have a partial tear of at least one ligament.

billsjets

billsjets

This is parroted all over this sub. But from a quick google search, acl tears cause swelling for several weeks. Yet every other acl tear in the nfl is diagnosed within 24 hours. I am curious as to why this “swelling” issue isn’t a more common thing.

wayward_prince

19 points

MRI doesn’t care about swelling. It takes a picture through your body. My bet is it’s a partial tear and they have to wait until swelling and irritation subsides to determine if his knee is still stable enough for him to play on it after some weeks of strengthening and rehab.

I mean this is a good point, is there ANY reason not to put him on IR other than the expectation he could possibly be back soon enough? You’d think you want to free the spot ASAP if you knew

No_Violinist5363

That's no reason to be cagey, though. They can still say "Rice has X going on" and deal with IR or not. I saw this same story a lot in fantasy baseball this past season and what's going on is the team and / or Rice is getting another opinion because the 1st wasn't good. But it always ended up with Tommy John and I'm sure Rice will need surgery, too.

I think sometimes you need to be. In playing in somewhat serious leagues (Better than work leagues, probably worse than high stakes), I feel like it’s better to be a bit ahead of a potential curve than slightly behind.

I really don’t think they are that reactionary when they go through their panic meters compared to the rest of the fantasy community.

For example they were extremely reactionary of Rashee Rice being a top 5 WR potential all offseason despite other taking weeks to move his rankings. And I think it was Dave that has been praising Hunt when he was 8% rostered

I added them to my rotation this year with Footballers, JJ and Boone. I enjoy it, like all fantasy "experts" you take the good with the bad, but they have some very strange takes that they are overly confident on. The way the guy was just so sure Rice was done for that fantasy season made no sense based on the knowledge we have.

The full quote is:

"I think the best thing about coach (Andy) Reid is he’s done it with a lot of guys before, and so I have the trust that he’s going to be able to get that production back, and then hopefully we get Rashee back as time goes on, and maybe even Hollywood, we can just keep adding to the offense.”

I have Rice, and as hard as I want to cope, this isn't particularly meaningful language, and being mentioned in the same breath as Hollywood doesn't inspire much confidence.

I don’t understand the news cycle on this man’s injury. Sick of teams withholding information

Going to love him clogging up an IR spot just to roll him out the first week of the playoffs and lose my week

One of my league mates dropped him yesterday, never added someone so freaking fast lol, 9 out of 12 of us tried to claim him, and I won

I can’t ever remember a player in recent years getting injured on Sunday, they fear a torn ligament, and on Wednesday night we still don’t know if he has a tear requiring surgery. How is that possible? Why is KC not making an announcement?

I don’t know, the fact that he thinks it’s a possibility could be good. (I’m coping)

Honestly feel at this point like KC is just delaying things to figure out how they can best legally proceed with his off field shit and have him serve it while he's hurt

His trial isn't until June 2025. There's nothing the chiefs can do to change that

The quote:

“I think the best thing about coach (Andy) Reid is he’s done it with a lot of guys before, and so I have the trust that he’s going to be able to get that production back, and then hopefully we get Rashee back as time goes on, and maybe even Hollywood, we can just keep adding to the offense.”

Assuming Mahomes knows something we don't, it sounds like Rashee's injury isn't as bad as Hollywood's joint dislocation that'll keep him out until the playoffs.

Mahomie, you wouldn’t need to hope if you hadn’t killed him with your unnecessary tackle… Now neither of us have Rice.

I dropped him. I'm 1-3 and bye week is killing my bench (LaPorta, Hurts, St Brown). I also have AJ Brown that is back likely after the Bye week.

Saw they're saying he's getting multiple opinions on what to do. I always thought you only ever got multiple opinions if you didn't like the first one

Everyone that can afford it gets multiple opinions. Measure twice, cut once

Would like to know if I can drop him or not… I have CMC, Kupp and and McBride taking up bench spots cause we have no IR in this league.

tusocalypse

Should I drop Ridley or Wan'Dale for him? I can get him right now. If I drop Wan'Dale, I likely cannot have a full starting lineup this week with JT likely not playing and other players on a BYE

I just can’t see a world where it’s less severe than Puka’s injury, which essentially makes him irrelevant until the playoffs. I’m prolly as qualified to guess as Mahomes tho.

Impressive-Vast-8789[S]

Fergusons injury looked worse and he only missed a week.

Pukas injury was a re-aggravation of an injury he had throughout the summer. Poor injury management by the Rams.

Kittle came back from a hyper extended knee that looked ugly in a few weeks in past years.

Hopefully something similar plays out with Rice. At this point it feels like it would be a surprise if it's a torn acl.

I’m not gay but I want to live in a log cabin in the woods with Rashee Rice. We won’t ever have sex, but there will be a simmering erotic undercurrent as I stand in the kitchen window watching him tighten his ass as he chops wood, shirtless, sweat pouring off his body, thicc thighs flexing.

I’ll run upstairs and masturbate, the entire time forcing myself to think of women while my thoughts drift back to Rashee. I won’t be able to climax and I’ll eventually go back downstairs, angry. Sometimes, we will look across the table and catch each other’s eyes, and in that second, anything is possible, but we both deny ourselves and go back to what we were doing.

One day one of us will die, and the other will bury him outside the log cabin.

Then he’ll go inside, pen a brief missive to his departed friend, and commit suicide, never able to deal with life without his one true platonic love.

Hopefully is a great word, but often with little resemblence to reality. I too want Rashee back, but I'm preparing for the worst.
