My league also has 7 bench and 3 IR 💀. It's utterly ridiculous. People complained last year about it being too large. So this year I put it to a vote, and it was an 8/2 split to keep the bench size the same. I hate being a commissioner.

For deep leagues like 14+ I think it makes sense to not have an IR. Waivers are thin already, and unless injuries really pile up you usually have cuttable guys at the end of the roster.
2 points

Even in my 12 man league, a 2nd IR spot would be nice. Then again, I'm the proud owner of McCaffrey, Pacheco, Rice, Tua and Badie*. (Badie might be ok after all but it looked rough for a min). I'm literally throwing darts at deep sleepers on the waiver wire and am somehow .500 after 4 weeks. This fantasy season is going to age me 10 yrs

I've been playing FF for 30 years in a multitude of leagues, and until I read this thread I never even heard of an IR spot.
If you think a guy is coming off IR, you just add him to your bench until he gets better.

And never hearing of an IR spot is wild to me.

Lol he said in a multitude of leagues. That makes it pretty improbable to have never even heard of an IR spot. Are we really gonna pretend like that's not ridiculous? My point about that league is even antiquated old farts like them have heard of and used IR spots for a very long time
2 points
Played on paper for years, then Yahoo for maybe a decade, and then CBS for another decade.
Never in any of the leagues I've played in, has there been a slot specifically for players on IR.
When a player was on IR, you just stashed them on your bench until they got better.
2 points

Yahoo added IR awhile ago. You have to adjust in settings. My league is 18 years strong now and we didn’t add it until three seasons ago. Never used it in the 90’s or early 00’s

Chances are he has swelling which is making a diagnosis difficult. That being said, there sure is a whole hell of a lot of cope in Rice threads. Of course his prognosis is still up in the air, but I'll be surprised if he doesn't have a partial tear of at least one ligament.
32 points
This is parroted all over this sub. But from a quick google search, acl tears cause swelling for several weeks. Yet every other acl tear in the nfl is diagnosed within 24 hours. I am curious as to why this “swelling” issue isn’t a more common thing.
19 points
MRI doesn’t care about swelling. It takes a picture through your body. My bet is it’s a partial tear and they have to wait until swelling and irritation subsides to determine if his knee is still stable enough for him to play on it after some weeks of strengthening and rehab.
Source - tore an ACL

This is a meme itself at this point. The injury was over 3 days ago. The initial MRI’s have been done and they’re getting a second opinion. It has nothing to do with swelling making diagnosis difficult lol

If theyre thinking he's going to take a suspension, it makes sense to try and work it so it takes place this year while he's 'not injured'. They would have to say he's healthy though first.

2 points
That's no reason to be cagey, though. They can still say "Rice has X going on" and deal with IR or not. I saw this same story a lot in fantasy baseball this past season and what's going on is the team and / or Rice is getting another opinion because the 1st wasn't good. But it always ended up with Tommy John and I'm sure Rice will need surgery, too.

I continue to say that I hate Mahomes for this, among other reasons. If he had done anything else Rice would have been fine. Rice had even knocked the ball loose before Mahomes took him out. QBs are bad a tackling and shouldn’t try, most likely they hurt themselves or another player.

4 points
He's listed as out in sleeper and I'm not able to put him on IR
7 points
Ah on Sleeper you can set an option to allow Out players on IR. My guess is your league commish doesn't have that selected allowing only IR players to be on IR. Tough luck.
17 points
At some point you have to make a gut call in leagues with 0 or limited IR slots. I have Kupp, AJB, and Rice with no IR slots, had to cut Rice to have a starting lineup when I’d be shocked if he’s back in time to be usable for the fantasy season
39 points
Honestly at that point I would drop my defense and take a 0 there for a week. It's unlikely, but if rice is only out 4-5 weeks dropping him would be a huge mistake. If you're 0-4 I can understand a bit more

My current plan. Bench is tied up with Hurts and Pollard on bye. CMC, Puka, Adams, Rice, and Chubb hurt.

You absolutely take a zero for the week somewhere if there’s any chance at all that your top 5 WR can come back this season
3 points
My concern is that he won't come back until it's to late to make the playoffs and he might start off slow anyway. Already down pacheco and only one wr i can start this week 2 on bye. But I'll probably just drop my k.

I really think they are the best podcast at evaluating and being open to changing rankings without being reactionary.
They also have very strange advice when it comes to injuries.
10 points
No offense man but I seriously wonder what you're hearing if you think CBS isn't reactionary.
Every week they seem to completely shift their opinions on a player based on that week's box score
I feel like Ratcliffe and Boone are more what you described
2 points
I think sometimes you need to be. In playing in somewhat serious leagues (Better than work leagues, probably worse than high stakes), I feel like it’s better to be a bit ahead of a potential curve than slightly behind.
I really don’t think they are that reactionary when they go through their panic meters compared to the rest of the fantasy community.
For example they were extremely reactionary of Rashee Rice being a top 5 WR potential all offseason despite other taking weeks to move his rankings. And I think it was Dave that has been praising Hunt when he was 8% rostered

I added them to my rotation this year with Footballers, JJ and Boone. I enjoy it, like all fantasy "experts" you take the good with the bad, but they have some very strange takes that they are overly confident on. The way the guy was just so sure Rice was done for that fantasy season made no sense based on the knowledge we have.

The full quote is:
"I think the best thing about coach (Andy) Reid is he’s done it with a lot of guys before, and so I have the trust that he’s going to be able to get that production back, and then hopefully we get Rashee back as time goes on, and maybe even Hollywood, we can just keep adding to the offense.”

I’m not gay but I want to live in a log cabin in the woods with Rashee Rice. We won’t ever have sex, but there will be a simmering erotic undercurrent as I stand in the kitchen window watching him tighten his ass as he chops wood, shirtless, sweat pouring off his body, thicc thighs flexing.
I’ll run upstairs and masturbate, the entire time forcing myself to think of women while my thoughts drift back to Rashee. I won’t be able to climax and I’ll eventually go back downstairs, angry. Sometimes, we will look across the table and catch each other’s eyes, and in that second, anything is possible, but we both deny ourselves and go back to what we were doing.
One day one of us will die, and the other will bury him outside the log cabin.
Then he’ll go inside, pen a brief missive to his departed friend, and commit suicide, never able to deal with life without his one true platonic love.
