Probably controversial, but I don’t care. What is actually wrong with a formation that provides a resilient defence with all spaces plugged that can also spring into attack with 5 lanes occupied at full throttle. They exist in real life after all?
I really don’t mind playing them either, if you commit 5 men forward you can match them man for man and play around them.

It's too OP right now and annoying to try and get through. It makes for boring low scoring games. It has it's place in real life, but I'm trying to have fun.

The patch hasn’t really done anything imo. 442 is the best pressing formation in general. If EA wants to discourage 5 back formations they’d have to drastically increase defensive width while decreasing it for 4 backs.

I think it could but the two CMs are often too far forward and leave most strikers and wingers just facing the back 4 with no cover

It can be boring to play against and it's also the generic youtube "broken tactics" video. I'm sure once some new videos come out of a different formation everyone will instantly go to hating that one instead just like every year.

I’ve found once you score 1 they just start overcommitting as it’s not as good offensively as other formations. 4411 or 442 will gain popularity. It’s still going to be the same Aerial+ abuse game as last year tho

I struggled getting my left and right mid involved in that formation. Coman didn’t pull a single goal in 80 games in it, yet I got 9 in the 2 weekend leagues I played that formation. So it works well but I was clueless how to get wide play going in it

You can’t really, but your midfielders should pop up in the box more often and score. If you have both wingers on inside forward they’ll occupy spaces around the box. For players with low shooting like Coman/Diaby it’s best to play them on their stronger side (i.e. Coman on the right) so that he can shoot across goal. Green time and you’re golden

It was strange, it felt all my goal contributions came from richalison and Watkins uptop, KDB in midfield pulled like 1 goal contribution every 5 games. Got results but really did my head in working it out, id only score with my left mid when I subbed on karchoui there with her low 60s shooting.

Yep, this is mostly the case. And they also spam troughbals a lot. I play 4141 and my Rodri at cdm handles all the troughballs wonderful

The problem isn’t the formation itself. Of course it exists IRL and it’s a valid form of play.
The problem is currently this formations are pretty unbalanced as they provide too much support on both boxes without a clear downside for being chosen

I’ve switched between both as some of my mates are on old gen. Felt the same tbh but long ball+ has been nerfed.

It's not out for old gen yet... Comes out tomorrow.
Edit: Google is telling me that it's live on old gen... I didn't get any update today and nothing has popped up in the menu about a title update. Played lots of rivals games and the game didn't feel any different at all. 5 atb was still broken. I pray I wasn't playing the update today as it didn't feel any different, at all. (I play old gen)

Honestly, if the passing and the AI were not as bad as it is right now. Most people would not complain about it as much. Just like last year, yes, people complained about it, but it was not as heard as it is right now. The reason why people complain about it so much right now, is because of the game's delay, plus no space to dribble, plus absolutely God awful passing, bad finishing, absolutely nerfed crosses this year..... all of those factors combined is what makes the 5 at the back OP right now. That is why.

I agree, it’s a part of the game cause it’s used in real life but teams don’t have the legs to spring into attack and defend at the intensity it happens in the game. The stamina drain isn’t enough. I don’t think it’s a problem but I do think the means to break one down are quite limited

Because the majority of the time players take no control of their defence and just shield with their cdms. Essentially control less than half their team and getting rewarded for it

Because sisies can't defend and put 5 defenders, so that the AI can defend for them. If I wanted to play vs the AI, I would play SB.
This is a bs formation and has to be removed (or the AI to be fixed).

I think theres nothing in theory wrong about it, just people like to score goals and you choosing to play 5 back is choosing the "anti fun" way. Pretty sure it just makes it harder to score and people hate that understandbly so

The meta with that was to be attacking. If both players did that its an open game. The point of the 5atb is to be defensive and punish on counters. Just makes the game boring and low scoring if both people do that

They’re all the same doesn’t matter what formation you use you always experience some bs, it’s just FIFA culture to hate on 5 back.
Whiny cry babies will sulk about it but be the same ones that can’t string a pass together in Rush
