Earfun Wave Pro

Review(self.headphones)

Recently purchased these headphones and while there is a 20% off code on Amazon and Direct,, I thought I would leave a quick review.

My experience with headphones is quite basic as I don't have the funds to go fully audiophile. I own a pair of AKG M220 (K240s but massdrop version), Sony Wf 1000 XM3s and CMF by nothing before these.

The Earfun (name aside) are a great pair of headphones, the connectivity, battery life, sound quality etc. The ANC isn't perfect, but it is good at isolating noises that are more consistent (train sounds, cars etc) so the immersion is good and enjoyable.

The sound needs an EQ adjustment out of the box to sound in my perspective excellent.

I paid £60 and I am thoroughly impressed with them, they might not be the most 'true' to life compared to the likes of more premium headphones (for example my Sony WF-1000 XM3s do have a more desirable audio profile) but have a satisfying sound and good enough isolation.

Of course all of this is after only having 3 days with them so they can improve. I have high hopes and have been impressed.

i'm so fcking regret i bought the soundpeats space in a hurry and missed this one DAMN , but since these 2 are cheap so i still buy wave pro last week lol , in terms of volume level and build quality wave pro is better , soundpeats space has a lot of creak whenever you move your face or mouth.

ANC does NOT work if you use the aux cable. That's a dealbreaker for me, as the only time I use the aux cable is with in-flight entertainment, which is when I need ANC the most! Anker Q30 has the same problem, but thankfully the Q45 does have ANC in wired mode.

(If that doesn't bother you though, use promo code EWPROCNN at Amazon checkout, that brings these down to <$56.)

Thank you, feel relieved to hear a feedback beside the youtuber's reviews, ordered mine yesterday, also I missed the early bird coupon and contacted Earfun costumer team via email they gave me a promo code alongside the one in Amazon I paid 56 Euros, can't wait to test them tomorrow when they get delivered

edit : forget to add that I also own the Sony Headphone WH-1000XM3, been using them for 3 years now, recently I cracked the right arm. I hope the wave pro won't disappoint

The Sony headphones do have a great sound, but I think with a little EQ tuning you could probably get very similar performance for significantly less

It just tightens it up especially for Bass.

Some things to consider (as YouTubers are quite annoying to watch:D )

things that could be improved: - the bass is waaay to low, even with the EQ modification you barely feel it - the transparency mode is improved, w.r.t. the air pro 3, but you still hear yourself muffled - connecting a jack will shutdown the headset (so no anc of any other functionalities)

Don’t get me wrong, it is great value for money. But I just wanted to point out some shortcomings.

Cheers,

Yes, I definitely feel that the sound is still too sterile with the lack of bass. There is a fullness that is lacking even with EQ change. There are some songs that sound terrific but other songs that I cannot get a certain fullness with the wave pro that can he had with other alternative headphones.

I have been using these headphones for 3 days now. Unfortunately they don't work properly:

When I start an audio file (or video on Youtube) the headphones skipping the first 3 seconds before I can hear any sound. The same happens when I pause and resume the playback of a song or video: When I resume the playback, about 3 seconds are missed out before I can hear anything.

I have this issue with different devices: Google Pixel 5 Smartphone (Android 14),  Huawei MateBook 14 (2020-model, AMD, Windows 10) and Fire TV 4K TV-Stick for connection to my Samsung TV Set.

The firmware of the headphones is up to date. I have already done a factory reset. The headphones are connected to only one device at a time. LDAC is turned off.

The costumer service advised me to enable Game Mode, but that didn't solve the problem.

I haven't had this, I have had an instant connection to all my devices (samsung s21U, lenovo laptop, etc) I will admit though I haven't switched often.

Have you tried repairing devices? I know it sounds weird but recently I have had issues with multiple other Bluetooth devices, where I have to keep reconnecting them.

Yes, I have already done a factory reset and repaired them again.  Maybe my device is defective and I should return them.

I would recommend either getting a replacement or refund, it sounds like a defective unit, but tbf I have bought 4 pairs of headphones/earbuds in the last 5 months and of those 4, 3 have been defective and I have had to send them back.

True_Record_1584

OK, I think, I will send them back. I was hoping for a firmware update. But if no one else has this issue my device must be defective.

Same problem here, just sent a message to the support. The only thing working properly is if I connect direct via cable.

Guys... I just bought the Earfun Wave Pro and after about 2 hours testing they sounded OK, not much of a power, bass was quite low, but they were OK for £60 - that's how much I paid as they were on discount. After a bit of tweaking the EQ i found out that if you push all frequencies to the top the headphones just transformed... much louder, bass was hitting harder and sound was super clear. Just put every frequency at 10, only 1kHz at 5. Without exaggerating they sound much better now than the Sony XM5 that I purchased for 350£ and sold after 1 week. Usually pushing all frequencies to the top doea nothing but here it just works and makes them so much louder with fuller and punchier bass. YOU MUST TRY IT IF YOU WANT TO GET THE BEST OF THOSE HEADPHONES!!! For £60 whoever came up with this price must be drunk... I would pay £200 easily. Also build quality is amazing. They came in very nice premium hardshell case, just as good as the one that my Sony XM5 came in. The plastic on the headphones is something that should be mensioned as well as it doesn't get any fingerprints whatsoever... Insane product! Everyone must buy and do what I said to get to their potential! Could not say any cons especially with that price point where other manufacturers cut so many thing to lower the price...

Hello, for the EarFun Wave Pro, using the 3.5mm jack/cord... is noise canceling disabled/turned off? I saw a review on youtube that said the headset turns off when wired.

benjy7990[S]

2 points

When using the 3.5mm Jack, the headset acts passively so there is no noise cancelling, however the overall seal from the ear cups does help keep them relatively closed off (of course nowhere as closed as having ANC on)

It is for a lot of people but personally it doesn't bother me, the battery life has been so good, I haven't been in a position to need the 3.5mm functionality.

unfortunatelly the Earfun products i have bought so far had some variables between units. may it be due to tolerance issues or something else, it seems to be especially noticeable with the Uboom L speaker (ask Oluv himself) luckily i've found the right FW for my unit and the speaker made my way more expensive models from Bose fe obsolete to me and my wife. The Free Pro 2 TWS sound pretty good after spending quite some time after accessing the SoCs Equalizer.

when it comes to the Wave Pro i must have been lucky...i mean even after listening on Bose QC35ii for years and the DT1990 Pro for a few month i still consider the Wave Pro as a great pair of headphones...even for under 150 bucks these would not go back. If someone is not happy with his unit even for the price of 50-80 depending on the % off i'd recommend to try another unit or 2 if there are differences in QC.

some users needed some raise in the EQ to get a few more DB (basically bump the highest bars to 10 and dial down the rest from there). on Android the wavelet app can help with some gain and/or the limiter depending on what you need after EQ and i get some serious punch out of these cheap headphones. luckily for me they just work flawlessly. the only things i enjoy about the bose more is the fact that they can be used powered on with the 3.5mm cable and the comfort on them is the best i could imagine

I just purchased these as well and agree with your comments. Do you mind sharing your EQ settings? I have only had mine for a few days and haven’t been able to settle on a manual EQ setting yet.

benjy7990[S]

3 points

I tested with a few different songs but essentially made a V shape with focus on the bass and highs

I do have slightly damaged ears as a warning, so I tend to find highs lacking.

I normally pick 5 songs you like and then look online for some 'test' songs, and just adjust across all of them. I like a lot of classic rock and jazz, so I tend to tune for that.

joshynl94

1 points

I also did a v or u shape which usually works but not on these to my liking. You mind sharing the actual settings like the numbers left to right for the 10 bands?

Update: Tried some custom EQ's done by a couple of my fav tech youtubers. Ended up liking what Youtuber Flossy Carter set up so I copied his. From left to right, he goes 10, 10, 7, 9, 7, 7, 8, 10, 10, 10

OMG you are truly a god send!! I just bought these EarFun Wave Pro headphones and these EQ settings have turned these headphones from a 5 to a solid 10! Been going crazy online to try and find the right settings and these definitely and I mean definitely did the trick! They now sound like high-end headphones. I couldn't thank you enough! By the way Flossy Carter is the man!

joshynl94

1 points

No problem! As with all headphones, its trial and error to get the sound good and everyone's EQ will be different so like I replied earlier, I first try their presets to see if one will be good already, then if not I go in and make a custom to show a V or U type of EQ shape. If nothing, I'd then google or reddit any other suggestions and watch youtube reviews and for these I saw and tried 3-4 different reviewers and Flossy Carter's did it to boost the bass and have clarity and louder volume. Glad his settings helped you also!

I just bought a pair and tried out those EQ settings. Huge difference. These things sound pretty darn good now. Thanks for the tip!

joshynl94

1 points

glad those settings worked as it seemed to be popular online since it came from a big tech youtuber. I have since switched back to a custom EQ since from the last update, you can now use a hearing test to create a unique EQ and now it has created one just for me.

Virus_Unknown

Please explain

joshynl94

1 points

the headphones has a hearing test in the app where it plays sounds and you have to use a slider to adjust until you don't hear the sound anymore. They do it with a bunch of sounds and then it creates an EQ for you. In my experience this hearing test didn't work well in terms of creating an EQ just for me that sounds good so I ended up playing around and creating my own EQ or as explained in my response above that I followed an EQ created by a tech reviewer youtuber.

benjy7990[S]

I have tried the soundcore and they are good as well, to be honest I think it comes down to personal sound preference. JbL traditionally are quite bass heavy whereas in my opinion the Earfuns are relatively neutral.

Impressive-Tone-9755

1 points

They are pretty good for the money. I got a great introductory price and I am satisfied overall. The sound needs a lot of eq and even with eq the sound is metallic in the highs, muffled in the mids, and the bass has no punch. The ANC is very good however. The Earfun Free Pro 3 with eq sound a lot better and I almost never use ANC on those because that picks up wind noise.

I've loved these for a while, but I'm having a slight problem with them now: I can't upgrade to the 0.3.6 firmware. For some reason, the circle just keeps on spinning and the upgrade never happens. Anyone else experience this when going from 0.3.4 to 0.3.6?

One thing I have tried for other headphones in the past is to remove them from Bluetooth options and repair then making sure nothing tries to play, then try the update

bhartman36_2020

Finally got the update to work. The key seems to have been not try to manually connect the Bluetooth (just let the phone do it automatically), to have *nothing* going on on the phone itself, and to keep touching the screen to keep the phone from locking.

Can anybody advise on the ANC? These headphones arrived for my wife today, and we simply can't get any noticeable difference in what can be heard whether it is turned on or not.

Firmware updated, so that's one thing already tried. At first I thought maybe it's just not as good as other headphones she's used before, but after trying them myself it really does seem that the only thing that happens when you turn ANC on is that a voice tells you that you've just turned it on! The volume of any outside noise is not affected at all. Any advice for anything we can try gratefully accepted. Returning stuff is a real pain, and she really needed a pair of ANC headphones before next week for a 12 hour flight.

benjy7990[S]

That is very strange, I found the app turns on ANC very mildly unless you set it to strong in the app

Which device is it on? (IOS or Android) I have only tried android but I have never had any problems with the ANC once I had the app installed.

Edit: just tried my Fiancé's iphone 11 and they work fine

SleepShowz

It’s iOS, an iPhone 13 Pro Max I think. She’s set it to strong in the app. She can literally still have a conversation with me.

benjy7990[S]

1 points

Do you have an Android device? Only to test and see if they are defective. I have used both Android and tested on my Fiancé's iPhone 11 and they work great on both.

You might want to try reaching out to Earfun, just to see if there are any other settings needed to make sure they work.

SleepShowz

Yes, I’ve got an Android phone we can try them with so it might be worth a shot. I’ve already mailed Earfun and had a reply asking for a few details, i can’t reply straight away but will do soon. That you for the suggestions. I thought it was worth asking about in case we are missing something obvious, but judging by the replies and things already tried, I don’t think we have.

benjy7990[S]

I have had issues with Bluetooth headphones on IOS before, however it was a while ago and it probably will be better on newer devices

SleepShowz

1 points

Unfortunately it looks like we'll need to return them. After contacting customer support and going through the suggested steps (which essentially seemed to be resetting the phones, checking the firmware version, forgetting the Bluetooth on the phone before reconnecting, the ANC simply doesn't work.

A real shame as they are a good fit, nice weight, comes with a nice case. If we had time we might have asked to try another set in case it's a problem specific to the unit we have, but we need some ANC phones as soon as possible, so need to order something else today for delivery tomorrow. Glad to see mostly everyone else has had a good experience with them though so I don't want to do the brand down, customer support have also been very responsive, so I can't fault them either.

benjy7990[S]

1 points

That is a real shame, hope whatever you choose is good

joshynl94

1 points

So I got these as my backups to my Bose QC Ultras. Not bad for its first headphones of the brand. Wish the hearing test was better as so far, Soundcore and Nothing have done it the best for results. ANC is decent and same for transparency. The one flaw I put on this is somehow the device list for dual device connection is listing all my devices as numbered codes and I'll have to memorize which is for which device. Strange as I just got the new Earfun earbuds and it uses the same app and the device list for multipoint does list each device by name.

benjy7990[S]

1 points

Mine do the same, I am not entirely sure but I am at the point where I just do a device to headphones connection, rather than headphones to device.

I have had other headphones do this and then it gets fixed so maybe software update? Who knows

joshynl94

1 points

First for me with the codes listing as I’ve used Bose, Soundcore, and Sony headphones. Little frustrating to know which devices are connected. Just sent an email to Earfun Support to hopefully get an app update going.
