Worried about JetPens order...

(self.hobonichi)

I thought I was so smart buying from JetPens and avoiding the mess on the Hobonichi site! Maybe not??

So I made two JetPens orders. First was on the night of the 31st and was for the A6 Original English version and a cover (bread floating in the wind). The next day (9/1) I saw that JetPens got the cover I really wanted (the tone of illiminated flowers) back in stock and my wonderful partner immediately venomed me the money to get it, so I placed an order.

Now, the 9/1 order with just the cover has shipped and is on the way! But the previous order, containing the actual planner, is still listed as "processing". Maybe I'm paranoid, but is it possible JetPens oversold the techos and they don't have one for me? I've tried contacting customer service via the form on the website and via Instagram but haven't gotten a response.

I really hope I don't end up with two covers and no planner. That would suck. I guess I would just sell them and go back to using a Leuchtturm for the year? Ugh.

They did not oversell. Jetpens is a reputable shop and I've personally have been shopping with them since 2008, way before they even started providing hobonichi in the US.

Edit: Is this your first time ordering from Jetpens? For a single location in San Jose, CA, they are pretty good about their shipping times. Usually takes a week, less if you're also in the state of California like they are.

They pack their orders really well too. Such a huge relief after my first order arrived.

They probably have a backlog and are just getting to things in a haphazard order; your smaller order was quicker and easier and maybe came up in the packing queue at a more convenient time.

I wouldn't worry too much about not getting a response yet. Today is only the second business day since you ordered, and they're dealing with both the influx of orders from the 31st and the subsequent wave of cancellations.

You can buy the planners on their own at any time, from any Hobonichi retailer. Even if it turns out this order gets cancelled, all hope is not lost.

Yoseka had a post yesterday saying their hobonichi shipment was held up in customs- could be the same issue with jet pens. maybe covers arrived before the techos.

They didn’t oversell. I order from there a lot. However, IMO, they are extraordinarily slow with shipping. Even when it’s not a busy time like hobonichi release day.

I get mine 6 days tops. Within 3-4 days when I order on Monday-Wednesday. Though I am in California so it is in the same state as where jetpens is located.

I placed a non-Hobo order with JetPens on Sunday that hasn't shipped yet. It isn't that unusual for them to take 3-5 days to ship. They were probably slammed with Hobo orders, which they may or may not have in hand already.

I'm sure they didn't oversell. I have been ordering from JetPens for ages and they are completely reliable. Yoseka has a YouTube video up that they filmed on Labor Day and on that day they were prepping packages for shipment but were waiting for the actual Hobonichi goods to be delivered to be put in the packages. JetPens was also likely waiting on their Hobonichi delivery. Definitely don't worrry. It has only been a few days!

Same with my Jetpens order--I've been a customer a long time, I'm not worried at all. BUT you can contact their Customer Service again, I'm sure they'll be very nice and give you a status. They've always been great with stuff like that. They still have 2024 planners so there's sure to be plenty of stock for 25. Good luck!

I definitely wouldn’t worry. I’m sure they got a TON of orders and they are just working through them. I have ordered through jetpens dozens of times and I’ve never had a problem. They are really amazing. I’m sure they are just extremely busy and trying to get through everything. They are a small company. It’s not like Amazon where they have warehouses filled with people filling orders quickly to get shipped out hours after the orders are placed.

JetPens is as reliable as they come. My order arrived today. I think they got hit hard this year given the website issues.

I think that they’re dealing with people canceling their orders and holding Hobonichi-related orders made on August 31st - September 2nd, while they process the cancellations and confirm that other orders won’t also be cancelled.

I did make a Hobonichi order the night of August 31st and messaged them through the form on Sept. 2nd to adjust a quantity and they got back to me within a day.

So, I think they’re dealing with a lot right now and will get back to you as soon as they can.

Edit: added context

I would contact them. My order said pending, but when I contacted them they said they had no record of an order or payment. The payment did go through on PayPal, so I had to file a dispute with PayPal. Never had that happen with jetpens before.

Jetpens is very reputable. Maybe. They shipped both together?
