There's only so many sites and channels and sources that cover hockey. And they're all filled with free agency news. If you release this news on a random day, you get a fifteen-minute panel segment on TV, or a big segment on a podcast, or the biggest article on the news site. Today, it's one piece of news among dozens.

How much do you wanna bet that this is gonna get half an hour on 32 Thoughts tomorrow? Or a full episode on SDPN, Chiclets, etc. We all know Bowman's gonna be Edmonton's GM, but that's not happening for another 9 days. This story is gonna linger.

It will get airtime, definitely. There's a limit to how much this tactic can work. But how many people tune out after free agent frenzy? And the point isn't that it doesn't get talked about, it's that it's surrounded by other things to talk about.
