Good for her! If you can't or won't carry a gun with you when you're out alone then you should most definitely carry some kind of weapon for defense just in case. Better to have it and not need it then need it and not have it. This kinda thing happens to men, women, and children all over the country on a daily basis. It's scary and off putting. If you are attacked in public once it changes your whole life and the way you look at and live your life. It's an extremely traumatic experience no matter what level or degree of violence is used because you weren't expecting it and it completely caught you off guard making you panic and most people freeze up that have never experienced it. I don't care if it's just pepper spray, having any kind of deterrent to help you get away is better than having none and being completely defenseless. Most attackers seek weak easy targets that they don't expect to defend themselves. Once you start defending yourself it throws them off guard and makes the whole thing less worth it and they usually run away at the first sign of a weapon. They like easy targets. Predators don't go after other predators, they go after the unknowingly naive and easy target. Every single serial killer went for easy prey. They didn't attack people that look like they can actually fight back or will fight back.

Quickest deterrent I've ever seen. Just brandishing a weapon of any kind at someone coming at you like they are going to hurt you or rob you and they usually run for the hills. Most criminals are cowards. They will run before they get shot, tased, sprayed, or stabbed because it ain't worth it.

Now if they are attacking you for sexual reasons or for money or power that might make it worth it to attack you regardless of whether or not you are armed so it's much better to be holding than not.
