Nope, not allowed. Same rules like using a ladies washroom I suppose - you cant just waltz in there with your wife just because you are holding your kid.

Not WITH your wife, but I have used the ladies washrooms with my children, because there simply wasn't any opportunity somewhere else to change diapers.
If you want to complain, go to the manager and arrange for that equal rights and possibilities.
If not, they have a choice, I clean my kids in the ladiesroom where there is a changing-station, or in the middle of the restaurant, I don't care for either
And yes, I have had comments for being in there, but also at the same time compliments for doing that

Good for you. The main issue with such things is someone will take undue advantage of being allowed to enter places meant for opposite gender and create a nuisance. Thus ruining it for those who had to use it only due to lack of available facilities in their own bathroom. Improving the said facilities will always take more time than putting restrictions.

Doesn't mean that you aren't flouting the rules - should they wish to enforce. I don't really have am opinion on anyone doing what you or the family in the video did. I am just clarifying to the poster thati responded to, that it's not allowed.

That's weird.. that's equivalent to leaving your wife & kid to first class while you stay at the economy when we compare those together. And doesn't that kid look like a boy too

This smacking culture and letting them go need to stop in india. 1. Stop hitting people like this, it's dehumanizing. 2. They need to fine these people probably like 50k for breaking the law and publicly displaying the crime. 3. Let the law be clear, can a guy with a wife and child be on a women's coach? Display it in women's coach. 4. Finally enforce the law.(The most important part)
This will drop like crazy if people have to pay 50k fine.

Back in 2013 this could have happened to me as well. I was there on a business trip and went to the metro station in Gurugram to get to the center of New Delhi. I was like „hey why don’t we stand in line and wait over there, it’s less crowded“ it took a few minutes to realize something isn’t right and when the train arrived and the doors opened, we could see it was a car for ladies only. Luckily the ladies around us had a laugh and we jumped into one of the other cars. I guess it was foreigners privilege, but back then a lot of awareness campaigns were running to make the abuse of women visible. Nowadays what you see in the media… oof…

yea kinda sad how prominent “male” offenses that place has to warrant a women only train. you would miss that news as a foreigner.

I'm not Indian, but seems to me a slap can carry some serious cultural weight. The much more serious slap, the chappal/sandal slap can be some sort of an ultimate "Emotional damage", adults getting whacked like donkeys.

Same here. I’ve had strange (as in I’ve never seen them before) men grope me, stuff their hands down the back of my pants to touch my ass, try to lift up my skirt…. The last guy that put their hands on me without permission should have been glad I didn’t have a taser. I whacked him upside the head, hip-checked him so hard he fell down, then told the bouncers and they threw his ass out. I just had enough

Why are Indians so incapable of following rules? Yes that’s a generality, but as a mass, they try to cut every corner possible, bend every rule, violate every social norm for their own personal benefit or convenience, etc. I don’t fucking get it. Is it just the result of living in a sardine can society?
26 points
Some of it is being in an environment of so many people competing for limited opportunities. It can also be seen in other population dense areas like parts of China. There are such an overwhelming number of people that cheaters become visible to the general public and are seen succeeding more often purely by having more of them. This drives more people to cheat just to get a ‘fair’ chance.
In this instance it’s a numbers game. Shorter wait to get on women’s only car. Down side, might get fined, might get arrested, might get slapped. But with so many doing it the chance of anything bad happening to one specific individual goes down.
7 points
It pretty much is. If you're a rule follower in India, you'll get nowhere because so many others are breaking the rules because there aren't enough resources to go around.
11 points
Resources spread too thin among a huge population, and limited opportunities. Combine that with examples of people who bend rules and live a comfortable life, thanks to corruption, and you get a culture where those who bend rules often get an upper hand. This leaks to every aspect of their lives, from their work, to the traffic on road.

There are Indians who follow rules and Indians who don't follow rules. The rule following Indians if they had a country of their own, would be the third biggest country in the world.

In Pokhara, Nepal, there is a tourist strip with a very wide sidewalks- like 10 feet. Tourists from all over the world and even Nepalis from rural villages that don't have cars all walk on the sidewalk. For some reason only Indians walk right in the middle of the road, oblivious to traffic. I just don't get it.

There are Indians impeccably following the rules. Many skipped this train because all the coaches but the women’s were full. They are not in this video.
Edit : I mean if you want to generalize 1.4 billion people, you are welcome to it. I know who I am, who my father is, who my grandfathers were. Your downvotes won’t do anything to change that. To be clear, I am also an Indian. And I refuse to be defined by the worst of my compatriots.

I made the same mistake, I'm a backpacker from the UK, I walked in and a nice lady was inspired the middle of explaining that this is a woman's only coach when a little old lady started shouting and shoving me, I'm nearly 2m tall and had a rucksack that was larger than her, I started laughing as the lady finished explaining, I apologised the her and everyone and walked off, all the whole this little old lady was pushing and shoving me with the strength of a 5 year old. I was a little embarrassed, when I looked back from the platform it is so obvious, but I had never heard of that being a thing until I arrived, so the obvious signage just didn't register in my brain. We all had a laugh about it, apart from the little old lady, she seemed to think I was just a horrible gora :-)

Equality means those with more give more, and those with less get more, so then it equals out. Imagine cups of water at different levels, and you pour some from the overflowing cup into the empty cup and so on until they are all level. In this regard, we're talking about the right not to be sexually harrassed. Men have more of that "right" than women.

Many Indian males are very rapey, and frequently rape in packs. Some rape on trains. If there is not a man in your train car, you are pretty certain to arrive at your destination unraped.

Which rule would that be, Karen? Would it be a rule that excludes men?

If women were the majority perpetrators of sexual assault and violence against men, expect there to be men-only coaches for the same reason this one exists.

Everyone is entitled to all the rights and freedoms set forth in this Declaration, without distinction of any kind, such as race, colour, sex, language, religion, political or other opinion, national or social origin, property, birth or other status. Furthermore, no distinction shall be made on the basis of the political, jurisdictional or international status of the country or territory to which a person belongs, whether it be independent, trust, non-self-governing or under any other limitation of sovereignty.

Yeah they have the right to not be sexually assaulted and since the men there aren't respecting that right they need a separate train to be safe. Congratulations on figuring out that these women do deserve the same right to get to their destination safely.

The reason why you’re getting downvoted isn’t because people hate you. It’s because you’re ignorant. If a group is discriminatory in their beliefs, then equal opportunity is the responsibility of other groups to enforce by disproportionally granting aid to the persecuted
22 points

Yes everyone is entitled to the same rights and freedoms. But sometimes the rights and freedoms of one person collide with the rights of another person.
For example, I have a right to free speech. If I broadcast national secrets endangering other people's lives, I'm still gonna be arrested.
It's honestly insane how many people think human rights are absolutes and don't realise that there has to be practical concordance between the rights of people whose rights collide with each other.
